The conference merry go round is just getting started. Lots of conferences will jettison programs soon and bigger programs will continue to leave for more money. So there will be plenty of schools looking for a new home in the next 24-48 months. OSU and WSU caught the “treasonous ten” off kilter and will win the lawsuit, or settle for huge money. They will have financial resources to rebuild and reload. Take some Mountain West upper tier market/teams such as San Diego State and some AAC upper tier such as Tulane, and then pick off some of the jettisoned B10 and B12 schools and a really compelling conference could be an outcome.
@Meme-zc4cw Жыл бұрын
@@DocSkirvExactly! One person who actually gets what is happening. WSU and Oregon State are just the first victims. Big 12 and ACC fans should be nervous. Schools like Iowa State, K-State, basically all of the Big 12 and most of the ACC are up next. Those schools (by current definition, not mine) bring very little "brand" power. The Big 12 is little better than the Mountain West or AAC. I think the rebuild of the Pac could very well include many of these schools that are on the next chopping block. If the Big 12 was smart, they would add these two schools as WSU actually has a pretty decent TV draw. Much higher than half the current Pac 12 schools, and higher than most Big 12.

I think the most important part of the decision yesterday was that WSU/OSU have leverage in a negotiated deal. It will never make appeal because there are no grounds for an appeal. The ten are stalling and know that the longer the PAC waits the more harmful it is to them. Something should happen soon! Best for everybody!

WVU has been down but has won 3 BCS Bowl games over Sec Champs Georgia, Clemson and Oklahoma.No way that new Pac 12 deserves to be a P5 league. Those other leagues will take away their automatic bid to the playoffs.
@Meme-zc4cw Жыл бұрын
@@vinnieromano1336 TCU wasn't even close to be competitive. That was embarrassing and the Big 12 should take a "let's never speak of this ever again" stance. It was the equivalent to a Group of 5 school playing in the NC game. WVU is at the same level as far as "brand" as Oregon State and WSU. Only alumni are fans. They are not a big TV draw. WSU garners higher ratings. Where everyone else is talking out TV draw and brands, you are talking about competitiveness on the field. You have old school thinking. You think Cal and Stanford are in the ACC because of their competitiveness on the field? What about Colorado or ASU? No, it has nothing to do with it. You need to understand what is actually going on here.

I know emotions have no place here, it's all business and I get that, BUT, let WSU and Oregon State try to survive. The departing will do just fine, especially the ones going to the Big 10. They will have a boat load of money coming their way in a few years and they are going to thrive. In WSU's case, they may not survive this if they don't get this money. If they were to join the Mountain West, the existing TV deal will give about $4 million a year. It may be that they don't have enough funding to support enough athletic programs to qualify as an FBS school. Hopefully Oregon State is in a better position, but WSU COULD end up in the Big Sky. I just think it is a dick move for these departing schools. It's one thing if it was just surplus money that would go into some general fund but in the case of WSU, the stakes are much greater.
@827dusty Жыл бұрын
Regaurdless of today's decision, the 10 member schools leaving, can, by California law, move to dissolve the conference, thereby sending all assets back to the 12 member schools, including the 10 schools leaving for The Big ten and twelve. A settlement looks likely instead of an apeal.

I agree, been watching this guy for a couple of years. He not quite up to speed about what is going on. 1st) The Appeal was filed with the Washington State Supreme Court this morning. 2nd) Which is interesting in the court proceedings. The PAC12 is a "Unincorporated Association" based in California (Head Offices are located in San Francisco), so then, this 'association' has to follow California Corporate Code 18410 (b) " If the association's governing documents do not provide a method for dissolution, by the affirmative vote of a majority of the voting power of the association.".. So right now, WSU and Oregon St. is playing a very dangerous game.

Oregon State and Washington State cannot play in a conference of two members - they will be forced to compete as Independents. Let's get real. There will likely be a settlement where the departing Pac-12 members take with them smaller revenue shares, while OSU and WSU join a Mountain West with a significantly better media rights deal. It will be in the interest of the Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC to help OSU and WSU make a soft landing, financially - rather than potentially lose out on any Pac-12 revenue and face competing with limited funds from their new leagues.
@rwillson291 Жыл бұрын
Huh? WSU and OSU just won the court battle for control of the PAC 12. Yes, their 2024 football schedules will look like those of independents, but they are in control of rebuilding the conference. Look for either a re-branded Mountain West with OSU and WSU, or something that the college football world has never seen before, such as the bizarre structure of the 2024 ACC games. WSU and OSU are not about to allow the departing Pac 12 schools to raid the conference funds.

@@craiganderson8569 While NCAA bylaws may allow WSU and OSU to say they are in a 2 team conference for two years, they can't play a nine game conference schedule against themselves.They are going to have to schedule as if they were independent unless they work out a Notre Dame like deal where a conference agrees to let it's teams fill up most of what would have been WSU and OSU conference schedules. Maybe the Mountain West does that, but they will want something in return such as the security of WSU and OSU joining their conference in 2026 or those schools being taken into the PAC in 2026.
