Jack Burton is peak Kurt Russell. Kurt is great in every role he's done especially when he's working with John Carpenter but as Jack Burton, Kurt is dripping with swagger and chewing the scenery all while playing an incompetent fool. The chasm between who Jack Burton thinks he is versus who everyone else sees him as is comedy gold! This movie is completely chocked full of great quotable lines from start to finish. I would love for JC and KR to film a sequel where Jack Burton has an adventure that takes him across China. Call it.. 'New Trouble in Old China: Jack Burton Rides Again! '

@@childofthesun32 @childofthesun32 Oh yeah for sure, the A-Team was like everyone involved in that movie won a raffle to work on it haha. I think the performers and crew put more effort in and it shows too when they really love a project. I would extend that to the likes of spaceballs and Blazing Saddles but if your movie is a comedy, full of comedic actors and comedians then of course it's going to be light-hearted all around. These movies had a bit of everything and they're not strictly comedies, neither are they full of comedians and comedic actors, it's special when we see it, it gives you a good feeling beyond that of seeing a movie you really like.

My favourite thing about this is that the commentaries for Escape From New York, The Thing and Big Trouble were all recorded on the same exact day at Carpenter’s home. Russell brought whisky and Carpenter had beers. Gradually, each commentary becomes more unhinged, as the two become more and more drunk and disorderly. It makes it so funny to me that essentially we’re hearing two old friends get drunk and reminisce about their youths.

Personally I wouldn't mind having a bootleg copy of Big Trouble in Little China, from the alternate universe where they did go ahead and make it a Western. Just for curiosity's sake. It's on the list along, with a version of Star Wars where George Mifune got Toshiro Mifune for Obi-Wan Kenobi like he originally wanted or an R-rated Jurassic book that followed the Michael Crichton novel more closely.

An absolutely hilarious romp from beginning to end! I watched it so many times when I was a teenager in the 80 on VHS. I just ordered it on bluray.

I saw a midnight showing of this a few years back and it was the best movie experience ever. The whole theater was there for this movie. We laughed. We cheered. We had a time. They don’t make em like this anymore.

Literally always one of my favorite movies. My dad played it for me 1 Saturday he rented it vhs in 87 or 86 I was like 8 or 9. Imagine a 8 yo seeing this in the 80s. I was very pleased that day. The movie to this day is a work of movie magic art. I remember when i first watched it. The movie just gets better and better as it unfolds.

I saw this at the theater when it debuted, because I loved Kurt Russel as an actor and was a big fan of fantasy/sci-fi/Cthulhu/mythology of all cultures kinda stuff This movie was and still is my favorite movie of all time due to the impact it had on me. I understood completely the dynamic of the characters and I was Jack Burton in so many ways as a youth, lots of swagger, lots of fun but as for most people, life was the real main character, always there to remind you who you really were in the grand scheme of things, but Man did I have fun... I took three different dates to see this movie and none of them liked it, I did not ask for a second date, any girl who ended up with me better dig John Carpenter and Big Trouble! I actually have an autographed picture of James Hong as Lo pan!... If I could get an autographed picture of Jack Burton, Wang Chi, Rain, Thunder and Lightning, my life would be complete :P

One of my all-time favorite films. Every line is quotable. Every frame is perfectly placed. The characters were well written for the world they lived in. Remaking this gem would be a waste of time, and a disservice to the original and its cast and crew. Watch this film, and see what a great movie looks like... :)

Just found out this came out the day I left home for basic training (seems somehow fitting although there was nothing funny about Ft. Jackson, SC in July and August). Saw it the first time on cable several years later and thought it was older than it actually was and wondered how I had missed it. Fantastic matinee fun at home in the recliner on your day off; love both these guys and their art.
