Assault on Precinct 13... what a theme! Composer Hans Zimmer once openly said to Carpenter that it was his favorite score and in his own words "i've always tried to steal from it". Carpenters reply was: help yourself :)

I looked at him and immediately heard "The Thing" soundtrack. Great!
@alexanderchebul55378 жыл бұрын
Interestingly, that's actually one of the very few movies he did not compose the score for. He brought in Ennio Morricone (famous for composing for old Westerns like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) to write the score to The Thing. I think Morricone did a remarkable job matching Carpenter's style, though.
@mordaciousfilms8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it really feels like Morricone was trying to sound like Carpenter on his THING score to the point that I always assumed John Carpenter scored that film!

@brandonhendrix72237 жыл бұрын
I know, it's ironic, that Carpenter didn't do the soundtrack to The Thing. Most of Morricone's score is orchestral and is quite different from what JC usually does. The only piece that has shades of Carpenter is the main theme and that was done at Carpenter's request, so Morricone decided to do something in JC's style.
@allirogorilla6 жыл бұрын
Carpenter did work closely with Morricone in how he wanted it to sound like and the mood of the score.

It's who I am. I have a few classic Korgs. They are elegant top notch machines. They can really take you where you need to go. I think they are awesome.

I'm not trying to be rude or stupid about anything, it's just that I literally have no one to ask in my real-life. Is Carpenter suffering from dementia? Does he have a bad case of acid reflux? He's chewing gum here and not smoking. His eyes dial in and out, yet he still has a sharp sense about him. They're just questions.

I mostly love carpenter’s scores, (especially prince of darkness) but try watching a few of his movies one after another. You begin to see he’s a one trick pony. Example: watch prince of darkness, then they live. My wife immediately said “is this the same soundtrack as the last one?’ Low, ominous notes without any melody. It’s a signature thing with him, his identifiable style, but also proves what he says about himself: he’s very limited as a musician. They live is his worst score. It’s one theme through the entire movie. Gets very grating. And the out of tune harp over top doesn’t help. His best theme isn’t even in his own movie: Halloween 3.
@fffranckable7 жыл бұрын
