A good, steady reading. Not, of course, the voice I heard in my mind when I read "The Cure." The one I heard was less staid, more comic and jittery. Comic, I suppose, because the narrator's dilemma is eventually resolved, he isn't arrested for accosting the lovely woman in the department store, he doesn't have a sordid encounter in the rundown theater balcony, or hang himself in his cellar. I found the flurried ending comical. The narrator and his estranged wife are hastily reunited -- once again! The neighborhood peeping tom doesn't come around any more and... "Everyone here is well." For now -- wink, wink. The bullet has been dodged for the moment, as in Cheever's masterful story, "The Housebreaker of Shady Hill."

Excellent reading; thanks! Any chance you’ll record more of Cheever’s stories?

Thank you so much, Peter! I have also recorded Cheever's "The World of Apples," on my channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHiWnmV8abNnd7s

Yes! I love that recording too. Any chance of your doing more? Maybe “Torch Song” for instance or “The Seaside Houses”? Yours are the best recordings of Cheever I’ve heard
