The round 2 parliament phase here is just JoCo2E at its best. Even though Shrey is the least experienced player on the table, he found himself in a position of immense leverage as both Cole and Edward really need his votes, making for some really interesting discussion and in-theme dealmaking. Just good stuff.

There is a major misunderstanding of probabilities here. It is not 80 vs 87% success being 7% more. It is actually 20% failure vs 13% failure, thus a reduction of 35% of all failure cases. Humans are terrible correctly valuing probabilities. Technically, you need to assign the potential outcomes an expected value to correctly assess the situation. When you do the first role for two regions, and you roll dice for an outcome of 18 pounds, the expected outcome of 80 vs 87% is 14.4 vs 15.6. So even after spending an extra pound, 14.4 vs 14.6 always favors 5 dice and the extra pound for the costs, and greatly increases success rates!

@stephenwyda25682 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the teach on this game is what makes me worried about its accessibility. I love the look and gameplay of it and the historic aspect of the game. Really well designed, but if it takes the game designer an hour to go over the rules, it will be tough to bring on new players to this. I am not sure it is a game that can really be taught via a game master directing and dictacring each aspect of the rules along the way as you are playing it.
@Cloggington2 жыл бұрын
I've taught this game a few times, takes me about 30 min with a rolling teach. Think Cole explained in much detail here, which is useful for a video to fully understand the game but not as a style of teach fpr this.
@stephenwyda25682 жыл бұрын
@@Cloggington when you do a rolling teach for this game do you get a lot of questions from players along the way and do you find yourself having to keep adding additional rule information along the way? Just seems like a lot of rules to get across for a rolling teach.
@malexander40942 жыл бұрын
@@stephenwyda2568 Throughout the teach, Cole is clear this is an HC-specific teach, and what he'd skim or skip. E.g., there is no need to talk about Commanders before Round 2. If you were to teach just the mechanics, it might only take 10-15 mins. Most rolling teaches get everything underway within 30 mins, by which point you've also played most or all of one turn. Questions come up, but most rules are very circumstantial in John Company. You don't need to know the rules for Commanders, India events, etc. while the Manager of Shipping is taking their turn, for instance.
@oerthling2 жыл бұрын
@@stephenwyda2568 As Cole said himself - that's nor how you teach JC. The fact that the turn is divided into very distinct phases where the individual phases don't need that much individually, makes it straightforward to teach while going through the first turn.

Question... During Round 2 revenue, when you had to take an emergency loan to pay for expenses. Company balance was on 7 and your expenses were 9. Taking a Company Loan would have put you on 12, would it not? Then you pay your 9 expenses to leave you on a Company Balance of 3, not 0.
