I don't know, But it seems you've heard of them before. And I know a lot of people who are Skillet fans but still listen to other bands like Slipknot, Mudvayne, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Rammstein, Mettalica, Avenged Sevenfold, and many more! I'm one of those people! But the kind of Metal that I hate is what I, and many others call, mic swallowing, two perfect example of mic swallowing is Dying Fetus and Cannibal Corpse

I've never doubted John's musical skills, and think there's no doubt that he plays on the more "improvised" stuff (I'm not sure that right word there is since it's clearly rehearsed, not improvised, but the stuff at the concerts where they're just jamming, adding stuff, etc). It's just a bit disorienting to see a rock band play without a live bass player for half their songs. Using tracks for the orchestra I can forgive because that's just going to be super expensive and time consuming to get a real one, but for the other stuff, I think it takes away from the performance to use tracks at all. I'd rather them hire a couple session players to fill in for the parts they can't get with the four of them and not worry so much about recreating the production on the album. Album listening and live listening are very different experiences and for me at least, knowing tracks are being used takes away from the live experience. Seeing it made so obvious with the lack of a live player of an essential instrument, for me at least, is jarring.

Skillet actually used to have someone else playing bass for them anytime John wasn’t playing and was interacting with the crowd. They would have their production manager (Scotty rock) play johns bass on stage with them. That was from like 2009-2012. After that I guess they decided to use tracks for the songs John wants to walk around for like “hero” and “monster”. Scotty now runs one of the soundboards by the stage. But pretty much anytime John has a bass you can bet it’s really him playing.

Are we gonna ignore that skillets early music had very strong Christian lyrics, and that they have a worship album, and that their music is written from a Christian point of view but can be interpreted in a non Christian way? They don’t curse, or promote sex and drugs and constantly reference God in their music. Are you that clueless Mr perfect?
