Wish I could have seen him in a ballet as his ballet training was so evident in this skate. His jumps and pirouettes are incredible. Unsurpassed by even todays talent. How imaginative to incorporate the orchestra. Definitely ahead of his time.

Bravo! Beautiful music, beautiful skating. What I adore about Curry is his commitment to the movement. He doesn't half ass anything. His spread eagles are glorious because he stretches. Now, skaters skate like rumpled heaps of laundry. Even those flexi spins looks like hell, because no one worries in body alignment etc. I'd take one of John's scratch spins over 100 half heart Bielmanns we see today.

Those flexi spins make me cringe. Nothing about them is graceful or elegant. John Curry is king.

How could he pull off all those triples and 2axels with an entire orchestra surrounding him? Amazing!

In my opinion, it's not just about ballet in Curry skating. It's about how he is incorporated classic ballet into figure skating sport. Not just with ballet movements, but by listening every note of music and being in an absolute unison with music. And in the same time, demonstrating unbelievable technical virtuosity. During his tragically shot life he never stopped creating artistic masterpiece after another on ice, perfecting and innovating his skating art! He wasn't just ahead of time - he was beyond time! Thanks God, he left behind so many of his breathtaking, innovative performances on ice we can enjoy today! I never watched this amazing "duet" with an orchestra before. What an imagination this artist had! Thank you for this delightful video!

Didn't I hear a story about one of the string section passing out as John flew by? Absoulutely brilliant!!!

I read that his fee for the programme was £300,000. That would be $2M in today's prices

I suspect those musicians brought their cheapest practice instruments on the ice because John, however good a skater, could have stumbled and crashed into the orchestra. LOL Joking aside, really breathtaking performance!

Thanks so much for sharing this! Was this ever broadcast in the US? John Curry was an unparalleled skater in so many ways! I commend him for skating his true self and advancing the artistry of the sport. Frankly I can barely watch the men's skating now. It's just skating from one end of the rink to the other and doing jumps. Granted they are spectacular jumps but the rest of it is just filler and uninteresting skating.

What has happened to the sound on this video?! Why has it suddenly gone like this?
