I really digg both Lex and John. 👍 Lex is a deep and intelligent conversationalist and very open minded. His stellar podcast covers cutting edge interesting topics regularly and I tune in often. John is a modern jujitsu instructional leader and ground breaking genius strategist for ADCC rules jujitsu. His insights have changed the game of jujitsu significantly... However, no matter how cool it is for John to read and listen and make assessments, it's not the same as experience over time. Especially in other fields where others may have spent their lives training and studying for as long or longer than he has done as a jujitsu instructor. It is my opinion that everyone should have their own opinions as long as they understand they remain within there perspective fields when dealing out advice that they have no clue of. Stating that guns are superior to knives is short sighted to say the least. It's like saying a Ferrari is superior to a Jeep. All depends on where you're racing. (speed vs terrain). Everyone shouldn't automatically blow someone because they have an expertise in a certain field and think that covers everything that comes out of there mouths as genius...

I wasn’t ever sure if he just liked knives or knew about the different intricacies of the different steels. Hearing his take on what knife needs call toughness vs hardness, I think he has a good idea. I’ve always been curious what kind of knives he gets good students. Now judging by the fact that he talks about rust and utility, and that they are mostly fixed blades, I feel like he probably just appreciates a simple steel like 1095 which still requires care to not rust but is very tough and easy to sharpen.

Incredible how someone's passion in one field, can translate beautifully and metaphorically to be applied for other disciplines. Love how this channel brings this subtly but so well put. Evetytime I listen to any conversations on this channel, I have no idea where it would lead. But the journey of the conversation is beautiful.

I've been obsessed with knives since I was a small child. Hoarded a secret collection of 50 something pocket knives my parents were unaware of until they weren't lol. Never even considered to bother questioning why. Its irrelevant. 32 now.... couldn't tell you how many knives, or how many different varieties, or how many different calibers of quality. Origins, manufacturers, materials, price, materials, ect.

Lmao i didn't get very far before my parents found mine. Funny thing is i had bought a gun and hid it from them too and they just so happened to find my 2 big ass knives on the same day as they found the gun. They sat me down all concerned and asked me if i had joined a gang 😂. I was like nooooo i Just always had a fascination for weapons and now i have a job and money i bought some stuff. Now older i own 12 guns, few swords, few types of Bows and many knives. Im not stopping any time soon, just love weaponry.

My love for knives comes from the fact that they are one of the oldest tools mankind developed and its basic characteristics have not changed the materials change but the purpose hasn't I use knives everyday for work and have always carried one and more often than not someone ends up needing a sharp tool. From opening a box to opening a communist its a simple design that can preform so many tasks.

Knives are as viable now as they ever were. Their usage is situational. Firearms are just different. They have certain hindrances like legal issues for carrying making them not as accessible at times when a knife is available. The knives availability, conceal ability, lethality and design specifics are more sophisticated now than ever reaching more people than ever. John's riddle of steal got worked out with Conan lol! What is the riddle of steal? Flesh is power... Control the mind and that is greater than any steel... John knows metaphors not knives...🗡️💀

Guns also don’t have much function outside of shooting people unlike knives which have hundreds. Both are morally neutral though and can be used for good or evil depending on who wields the tool.

I'm interested in the 30ft rule everyone says a knife loses against a gun but crime reports, police interaction reports and others dispute this. A knife is an elegant weapon sometimes, its always personal. Other times it's just a utility tool. Blades fascinate me always have especially individual hand forged pieces. I get Danahers fascination it's a balance between hardness and flexibility the analogy comparing it to ju jit su is appropriate.
