This was most certainly the highlight of the road trip. Sirens that do more than 5 seconds of anything, let alone attack, are rare in Oregon, and this is an exception far out in the desert. I made an important discovery at this siren: It still had the original tag, the first Weltex with one that I’ve seen, and I managed to get an up-close shot of it. Incredibly, it turns out that these things have been E.D. Bullard sirens the whole time! The Model 3H27*, according to the tag. Hopefully I will return to John Day one day and get recordings of their Model 2 and Screamer.
*New info shows that sirens of the same model have different number suffixes, likely as a serial designation. As such, just “3H” is likely a better name.
Location of this siren: 44.4142920, -118.9505232
Testing time: every day at noon
