as soon as I realized John De Lancie voiced Discord (about 5 minutes ago) i had the thought that Q and Discord were basically the same person. Looks like the man himself thinks the same.

You know who else had that very same thought? The show-runner for MLP FiM when she was creating the character of Discord. She quote "Wanted someone like Q from Star Trek." John De Lancie has gone into much greater detail on how that all went down in panels and interviews. Interesting stuff, should look it up.

@@AceSpadeThePikachu What's even more interesting is that he initially just wrote it off as another acting gig. He did like the script, so he went in and recorded his lines, then completely forgot about it, moving on to the next thing. Then he started getting messages from the Bronies saying how much they liked his portrayal of Discord. He was confused as to why these adult male fans of a show meant for little girls were talking to him about the show, and he initially assumed that they were LGBTQ+. As he learned more about them, he realized that they were just regular people who simply liked the show, and that the core values of the show and fandom were very much like that of Star Trek's. But he didn't start to get more involved in the fandom until he saw a Fox News segment denigrating the Bronies. He was so disgusted by the way they were making fun of people for liking the show, that he took it upon himself to stand up for them, being one of the creators of that Bronies documentary. So I respect him for that.

@@astrofan1993 I knew some of this, and anyone who has the courage to tell Fox News to shut up are heroes in my book. I may not be a Brony myself (seen a few episodes; I can kind of see the appeal but I prefer shows; even cartoons; that have slightly higher stakes for the characters. Like, situations where if they don't act quickly somebody could get killed, even if they never show it happen. It makes me more invested.) Star Trek may have been one of the most progressive and influential shows of its time, especially the Original Series, so it only makes sense that an actor on Star Trek would recognize when another show is doing something similar for the next generation (yes that pun was intentional.) Side note; I actually liked Season 2 of Picard. I know a lot of people are divided on it but I think how they handled Q in that was great.

@@AceSpadeThePikachu Yeah, I liked Season 2 of PIC as well. Picard finally realized after all these years just what Q was doing for him, and he thanked him for it. They finally parted ways not as adversaries, but as friends. But now, it will be interesting to see how Q interacts with Jack Crusher, assuming that they make that Legacy series that the fans have been clamoring for. Personally, I like to think that Q did not actually die, but ascended to a plane of existence higher than even that of his own people, hence why he appeared before Jack.

@@astrofan1993 My theory is a lot more simple, and Q flat-out says it basically when he calls Jack out for thinking so linearly. Q was never bound to linear time. The Q who appeared to Jack is just him well before he started dying. The events of Season 2 hadn't happened to Q yet, though since he's partially omniscient he already knows most of it. Season 3, while I liked it, really felt like it went waaay overboard with the nostalgia-bait. Brining back most of the old cast one last time is one thing, but then they had shoehorned in bits like "Oh how convenient, another copy of Data just sitting here in Daystrom Station" and then the Enterprise D reveal. Picard even commented how he missed the carpet. Aaand they sent this thing immediately into battle with a minimal crew against a Borg vessel and even pulled a Return of the Jedi corridor run with it...the ship that's BIGGER than even the Enterprise E was. How did Geordi rebuild it by himself without anyone knowing? Why DIDN'T he reveal it sooner? Why THAT ship out of ANY of the others in that collection? In-universe it makes sense why they'd hijack an old ship from the museum, but for the immediate mission at hand it was tactically the WORST one they could have picked. They needed something smaller, faster, more nimble and already equipped to contend with Borg vessels. You know, like Voyager or the Defiant. And then how the writers just brushed past most of the characters introduced in the previous seasons. Laris; whom Picard had started a December relationship with at the end of Season 2; was just there to tell Picard "Go see your old lover and I hope to see you around later"...which he never does, at least not on-screen, and Elnor (who had become one of my new favourite characters) wasn't even mentioned. I REALLY wanted to see him interact with Worf and gush on about their favorite styles of bladed melee combat.

A cameo? In what? One of your videos? Also I have indeed seen full panels of him telling the story alongside the MLP show-runners. That the head writer wanted a chaotic demigod like character with mannerisms that were "John De Lancie-ish, like Q from Star Trek." And another writer in the room said "...Well why don't we just get John De Lancie?" From his perspective I remember him saying he went to the audition knowing they were looking for someone who was exactly like him (particularly in his role as Q), but was legitimately worried that he might lose the gig to someone who can do a really good impression of him. Because stuff like that happens sometimes in the business.

@@aaroncash631 Oh I know the actual story (he elaborated on it in a panel at another convention; long-story-short, the head show runner of MLP was like "I have this idea for a neigh omnipotent trickster-god-like character, and I'm thinking he should be kinda like Q from Star Trek. You know...someone who kinda sounds like John De Lancie...oh wait, why don't I just ask John De Lancie?" This question was meant to be nothing more than a lighthearted joke and he clearly picked up on that.
