Thanks a lot for walking us through what you did to improve the blower. I'd like to at least try the smaller sprocket on mine.

JD 212,new reman variator and woodruff key on trans input shaft plus some "whizbang" painting and touchup and other things needed after it all sat ouside for over 5 years. My first ever garden tractor,before it was an LX277,just a good size rider. The 212 came with mow deck and 37A blower,it was all bonus for helping out my cousins with their new house build and some work in their dad's house too,I gave them family rate labor and they added in a tractor plus attachements! I plan to eventually do the baler belt mod but not the sprocket change unless the belt mod isn't enough performance increase for my modest needs. Good video,thumbed up!

Now that is really throwing the snow and it does not even sound like it’s racing very hard. Awesome

Thanks! It was definitely a worthy improvement for me.

Great video that 110 kicks butt. I am picking up JD 140 adding to my collection my JD 425 & 445. I did own JD 318 restored it and sold it the governor went bad on it. I didn’t want to take the time to fix it. But after I restore my new 140 will look for a 318 lol. Will put load some videos this summer on the restoration on the 140. It’s a H1 converting it to a H3 and of course repainting everything stay tuned.

Thanks Paul! The 110 does okay but I'm pretty sure I'd be happier with a 400 series setup similar to yours. Best luck with your 140 restoration/conversion - I'm looking forward to seeing video on it.

Thanks for the brain work on this! Now I don't have to experiment on my own.I bought A 112 at auction on Sunday and am going to pick it up today. Came with the deck and blower and I stole it for 370 bucks! Can't find blowers to fit my other 112 that aren't rusted out scrap metal. Looks like the old owner barely used this one but if the 12 up Kohler don't kick that Minnesota snow far enough I'll be modifying mine like yours.
@real_brown15067 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I can't take credit - just copied what others did. I wish we'd get enough snow for me to use it this winter! Best luck with your "stolen" 112 and snow thrower mods! :-)

Sprocket change to speed up the auger makes the most difference. I had a 27 tooth on a 140. That would move snow 60 feet. My latest on as a 36 tooth

Where did you find the 38 tooth sprocket?
@joshuaschultz63648 жыл бұрын
Hi, I just got a 1972 John Deere 110 with the 37A snow thrower. It is a great machine but I too am disappointed in the distance it throws the snow. I just ordered the Tritan Sprocket you specified and was wondering how many links of the chain you removed? Also is it just a matter of loosening the set screw and swapping out the sprockets. Anything else you'd recommend?

Where can I order a sprocket like shown
@real_brown15065 жыл бұрын
I ordered it from Global Equipment Company at Globalindustrial.com. Here are the details: TRITAN Sprocket 40BS38X1, 1/2" Pitch, 1" Finished Bore, 38 Teeth. It cost me $23.50 and another $15.50 for shipping in 2016.

Nice job , but how about the chain ? did you put a smaller one? And how could the chain be this tight if the original is kept with a smaller sprocket??
@real_brown15068 жыл бұрын
+john smith Thanks! You're right - the original chain would be loose with a smaller sprocket. I kept my original chain but shortened it one link.

Drop angle of chute and not so fast and throttle up
@davesmith29078 жыл бұрын
I'm looking at a 73 model now, I think it had maybe 10hp on it, Comes with a snow blower and mower deck , If blower does half as good as yours looks to be doing here, I'll be Happy Guy with it....I think
@real_brown15068 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind my thrower has been modified to spin faster than stock so you might want to consider doing the sprocket change, especially if you open it up anyway to service it (I would - being so old it probably needs cleaning, lubing and chain adjustment). Best luck!
@davesmith29078 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice, I'll sure keep that in mind, I just sent him a e-mail on it. We'll see if he still has it, he wants 900 for tractor/mower deck and snow blower. I'd like to be around 750 --800 at best. Sound about right to you?
@real_brown15068 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the condition and how bad you want it. Best luck!

Drop the angle of the chute. Don't shoot the snow so high.
@real_brown15067 жыл бұрын
Rick Martyn, yes, that would help for sure in some parts of the driveway depending on location and the wind. I’ve thought about building a taller chute, too - supposedly that helps throw snow a little further. And I’ve also thought about adding electric controls for the chute and the angle but that would be quite a project I think. So far I haven’t had enough snow this winter to bother running this! I sure hope that changes - we need the moisture here.

Do you have a part number or something for the smaller sprocket?
@real_brown15068 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Yes, I bought my sprocket from Global Industries.com in January 2016. The description is: TRITAN Sprocket 40BS38X1, 1/2" Pitch, 1" Finished Bore, 38 Teeth. It cost me $23.50 and another $15.64 for shipping ($39.14 total). Best luck with your project!
