never go full throttle in a diesel that's how you wear the glow plugs and crack your block.. let it idle till warm then rev it. also let it crank for a few seconds.. cycle the glow plugs then try again. other than that great video bud!

Re do glowplugs have charge pump rebuilt and it will run like a dream. Also moving throttle while cranking a diesel engine does nothing once they are shut down the fuel rack goes to full fuel for next start might want to do your valve lash too, nice machine though

With a diesel, when you hear it kicking like that, stop cranking and instantly turn on your glow plugs for like 10-15 seconds, and crank for another 10 seconds. Your starter will thank you. That kicking means the fuel is igniting. You’ll sometimes feel the engine actually turn, even when you aren’t engaging the starter. Just by the glow plug themselves will turn the engine. You’ve got the compression, all it needs is the heat.

@@brandonlee3875 older yanmars used a thermostart system. You can add one. Do you have a compression release? Do you use starting fluid? I have a yanmar ym240 with no starting aid whatsoever, and it starts pretty well in the cold. Here's a video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laOUhJqYZdKljLM

With good glow plugs, they will start on the first crank. but most diesels don't need them above 35 degrees. I live in Texas & my 7.3 doesn't get below 35 95% of the time. down south you don't really need glowplugs.

Diesels don't like to start below 35 with no glow plugs, diesels will start down to 35 without glow plugs. its when it gets in the gelling temps that they don't like it. but I don't think he's getting any heat to the plugs.

Diesel is a hole differnt designed, they run off of combustion, your asking to get hurt

@@Drewsadventures00 diesel runs off of compression which generates heat, which causes the fuel to combust. a blowtorch near the intake helps the diesel to build heat faster (think glow plug) and works just fine. DO NOT use a blowtorch anywhere near a carb on a gas engine! that will blow you up. gasoline engines do not require heat to ignite the fuel because they have spark plugs. Both types of engine use combustion to run.

If it doesn't start with the glow plugs, squirt a 3 second blast of starting fluid. Then turn it over. It'll rattle a bit. Leave the throttle open while cranking. You made it harder to start by "Pumping" the throttle. That doesn't do anything. If it don't start, squirt it again. All it needs is one cylinder to fire first and it'll start. I had a 1980 International Scout II with the Nissan SD 6-33T and on rare occasions used ether to start it. I'm surprised you didn't fry your starter. And DO NOT used glow plugs if you use starting fluid. Also use winter blend and add anti gel to your fuel. My experience is that the fuel filter gels up and the fuel lines do not. I had to pour 15 gallons of hot water on the fuel filter to thaw the gel, then use the primer pump to recharge the fuel rack. Winter blend is a mixture of #1 diesel and #2. SOOOO don't run out of fuel with a diesel. The rattle is some preignition with the lighter parts of diesel firing first until it warms up enough for all the fuel to ignite.
