Great video Jon!! Only tractor I have the chatter on is my 4240 and it's only when I start it after many days of not running and when I start it the first time and the arms have leaked down. It takes many days of not running for them to leak down. I'm not going to worry about it for now but I think I'll start putting the lever down before I start it if arms are down let it run a while then raise them from now on. Thanks and take care man!!

Our 8440 leaks down after sitting for a few hours. When we start it up, it chatters until it's fully up. I'll have to check the coupler remotes for high heat to start. We pull a 36' cultivator with a harrow behind it. Seems slow when lifting wings or the main lifting cylinder. Another note is that there are unusually small lines that extend to the wing cylinders. Great information to look at. Thanks for the video Jon. 💪🔧🚜

If 3pt drops in several hrs, there is a plug below the right outlet on the transmission case, pull that plug and with the tractor running, and see if oil is spraying in there. Check pressure at outlets.

Awesome video the John Deere closed center hydraulic system is a animal of its own kind but when you understand how it works it's not that complicated it's basically like a household water system that returns the fluid it has to come to standby pressure. I have noticed that the 10 20 30 40 series don't like extended run time with orbital motors especially Charlynn gerotor motors the whole system and transmission case gets hot I would think that if the oil drained thru a case drain on the return and it had another oil cooler would make a huge difference the one farmer I work goes thru a main pump every summer using a Vermeer hydraulic drive bar rake I told him I could build him a standalone pto drive hydraulic system just for the rake.Keep up the great videos Jon

I have a John Deere 4000 I bought. to restore changed the radiator and new main HYD pump changed all of the lubricant and filters and screen got it up and running. drove it around the pasture and lost all hyd steering, brakes, and three point. check the screen in the the trans and clear. I loosen the line to main hyd pump very little oil coming out I'm thinking maybe the trans pump is not pumping when it gets hot. You have any suggestion.
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 Жыл бұрын
4000 would be Synchro transmission only and that pump is underneath the three-point housing on the back end of the top shaft. If you have no oil or very little oil coming out of that pipe on the left hand side then something could have happened to the pump or the plumbing around the pump. Lift off the three-point and you'll see the pump right there and the suction and discharge tubes

I bet you have a very early model that has a 20 series steering valve. Could be something as simple as the valve tolerance in there
@rodwilk834 Жыл бұрын
It is usually not a problem with the steering valve but an issue with the steering motor rack piston orings on each end of the pistons. One or more may be damaged and the steering valve can't trap that oil to hold the rack pistons in place so the result is you turn the steering wheel to try and correct the front wheels from wondering. Hello Jon. Should my arms creep down on my 4055? It sometimes seems to be where the lever is set as sometimes it will keep them up and other times they go down over night. Also how good are you with electrics? @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37542 жыл бұрын
Arms creep down over a couple days isn't the worst. Technically they shouldn't creep at all, but. Tractors are 40 years old, could be several problems in the dash, maybe pick 1 problem and see where that goes? If many problems sometimes it's a ground issue, you have a ground from each battery to the battery and then you have a ground at the oil filter and then you have a ground under the hood on top of the air cleaner box
@danielallerton18052 жыл бұрын
Ah. Yes I’ve checked a lot of the grounds and had a guy come look from John Deere he thought it’s the right hand dash causing the issue there’s a guy up the road with same tractor I could try his dash in mine. @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 Жыл бұрын
Perfectly normal. Syncro transmission has the transmission pump on the back of the topshaft of the transmission, when you push the clutch in the topshaft stops spinning so you can shift but it stops the pump, there is a reservoir up front to buy you some time.

Nothing is broke, if you have a loader or impliment you are running for a moment stationary then click to neutral and let clutch out. I guess you could see if there is room by the radiator to take out stock reservoir and make a bigger one?. One thing to check is for any high pressure leaks, scv's, 3pt, steering, brakes, if they have leaks it uses up the oil quicker.

It's normal. Kind of a dumb system but return oil from a cylinder goes to charge circuit (feed main pump) so if just pushing in the clutch to lift and dump loader there should be enough oil, The worst is if you have to tow the machine put it in tow or it will smoke the topshaft.

Hello John. Do you know if I can use the plug to the right of my top link bracket for a free flow return. It’s under the 2nd spool on my 4055. I’ve seen some footings with a deflector inside so the oil runs down inside of the casing.
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can use that as a zero pressure return. But you would use it for like a case drain not returning a motor. If you return a motor there will absolutely get cavitation
