That root rake is the ticket. Your right about a grapple, the articulating top will limit how much open space and the angle of attack some. Mine is more root rake with a flat bottom so not to big of an issue with digging but not nearly as open as your root rake. Enjoyed it!

I don't think hp will matter so much. The 44 hp model of my tractor weighs the same and has the same lifting capacity. You might be just fine! God bless

Great video Andrew! Your root rake really made quick work of those stumps! I like how the tines on the bottom are so long allowing you to dig down deep. My wicked root rake grapple works pretty well although I haven’t used it much for clearing stumps and brush like this, really looking forward to see the transformation of that beautiful oak!

Another impressive and well done project. The only think I would do differently is to carry the stumps further away instead of putting them near your woodyard and lay down area. I would think it would encourage undesirable slithering things to take up residence closer to your work area than I would like.

Not familiar with your JD 4066R, will you have to install an 3rd function valve for a grapple. I had to on my B series Kubota. You mentioned Perry, being an hog hunter. Do you have an in your neck of the woods. I've put down a few as far down as Bainbridge over to the Chattahoochee & into Alabama.

Yes sadly I need to add a third function. I bought this tractor off a dealer lot and it did not come with it. Yes Perry is where this root rake and grapple manufacturer is, they are very good people. We do have plenty of hogs in this neck of the woods.

Got my 4052 delivered a few weeks ago that we talked about. Dumb question and I am sure its in the owners manual, but I misplaced it. The glow plugs, I let the light go out after five seconds give or take, hit the key and it bumps the starter like an interlock happened and then nothing. I then have to go to the start position again to get the engine to roll. Is this normal? It never doesn't crank if I hit it again. It only does this when its cold enough to activate the plugs. I grew up with stuff with glow plugs and actually am an older tech at freightliner, but this is a new one the way this is acting. I can straight key on to start and let it go while cranking and it will start, but when its 7 degrees out like it is at the moment here in Kansas, it did not like it.

No that doesn't sound normal, sounds like a weak battery or bad connection. I always turn my key to the right for several seconds (shortly after the beeep). The I'll turn it the rest of the way to crank. Now this is Florida, so we don't get colder than the 20s. Yours could be doing something different because of extremely cold weather???

@@TKCL I will have to play with it. It cranks fine like enough voltage. I get what you are saying because that was my first thought too. Freightliners with detroit engines will do the the exact same thing when the voltage gets low, but they do not have glow plugs. Cummins in dodge trucks will do the bump thing too when the batteries get low or there is a voltage drop on one of the main cables. Co worker had a friend with one doing that, he kept bugging me asking what I thought it was and it ended up being his ground on the frame was rotted on a three year old ram truck I think it was. I mainly do electrical and electronics on the big rigs at work and at the end of the day, its all the same thing, but I have never seen anything like this happen in all my years. I should just call the dealer to haul it off to fix it, but my hard head will get a volt meter from work when this nightmare winter system passes mid week as I am stuck at home running heaters and such keeping the pipes going for the water. On the plus side when it was warmer, I cut a trail with the loader in my hedgerow that is probably 200 feet thick and was able to cut about a cord of firewood for the first time since my wreck, so that made me feel pretty good once again that I am able to do some of the things I did before. Do you have a good grapple brand that you suggest? I had the hydraulics ran to the front with a button on the joystick for running stuff on the front. I bent my bucket trying to push trees out on top of the pond dam. I got it bent back pretty close and will plate it. I was surprised how much power this thing has and it caught me off guard when it bent the bucket. lol

Hope you figure it out. As far as a grapple brand, I highly recommend rake master! They are a small town family owned business near me that has been making grapples for decades. They sell them all over the south and other places.

i have a tree puller for my skid loader, i know what your talking about. i can pull a 6 inch round thorny locust tree but have a heck of a time pulling a 3 inch round oak tree lol. roots and soil moister content have alot of play in these jobs.

Do you run into many yellow jacket nest while you are clearing the brush? Last summer we stirred up a couple of nest removing brush and such, was glad to have the cab.

Only twice I can remember getting into a solid nest of them. We have more of a problem with red wasps and pigmy wasps hanging all in the limbs. I've been stung more than I can remember. I'm allergic to red wasps, so I laugh now when I see them bouncing off of the tractor glass.

Absolutely, that's the bulk of their business is the grapples. Lynn's industrial welding in Perry Florida makes them. They also have dealers spread all around.

Looks really good, and when done will be a great view for sure. Try your disc when you've got all cleared, it will help level and fill the stump holes, possibly enough you won't need any extra fill. 👍

That's a thought, another viewer said to be very careful with the main tree roots to not hurt the tree. I'll have to pay attention to how shallow they are.

Just watch my review video where I'm very honest on the shortcomings. Let me know if you need the link. I love John deere and find them very reliable, that's the main reason I can justify the expense. My last 13 year old John deere was excellent. With that said you can get more bells and whistles on cheaper tractors. My biggest selling points was reliability and the most powerful compact tractor made. PTO hp was everything to me with all the mowing I do. Don't forget tractor weight is critical for ground engaging equipment, but more more hp will encrease speed and efficiency. Feel free to ask anything you want. I've had experience with a 3 series 44hp tractor and now my 4 series 66hp. It would be helpful to know the biggest reasons you are buying a tractor, what are your main intended uses?

I have seen your review in fact I believe that’s how I got started watching your channel and have now all of them I believe. I have owned several tractors and currently have one. I wanted to upgrade to more horse power for same reason as you a lot of mowing. I also wanted more lift capacity at the loader and a backhoe attachment. I was most drawn to the ability to move the tractor and 3pt from outside the tractor. Just wanted any additional perspective from a fellow owner especially since I am going to pay several K more for this compared to comparable tractors of a different color. You're taking a ton of competition away from that oak. Being grown in like that is how they die. You'll have to mow down the suckers coming up from the shallow roots from now on. That will look really nice when the grass comes in around it.

Wow, a new manufacturer to check out. I want a sturdy root rake with a grapple but have found only one that opens as much as 40 inches. That seems too small for stumps and brush piles. The videos make them look like it works but looking at oak trees 3 ft at the base makes me concerned about picking up a root ball. Thanks for the video.

I'd be leery of using a root rake on a tractor loader except for sandy soil and light use. FEL's are designed for lifting, not hard pushing. Real easy to damage a loader doing this, so be careful. On a decent size bulldozer, a root rake is extremely handy for final passes on previous wood land.

I agree and I'm very easy on my equipment, I don't ram stuff. With that said, my last John deere was a 3 series and 13 years old when I sold it. That root rake seen a tremendous amount of action on that tractor doing far tougher work than this video showed. It was in excellent condition when I sold it and never a problem with the FEL. I trust Deere products, but yes these are definitely not bulldozers and should be treated differently.
