I took this video a few weeks ago and before I got it edited I had to get ready for a snow storm.
This shows the trip to the pit and running some gravel through a stationary screen. The gravel pit is owned by a large timber company and we have a permit to buy gravel from them. This gravel is for repairs on one of the town roads so it doesn’t have to be perfect. My father was working on a different job so I screened for a few hours to build up a sock pile. Then he would use the old 544 to load when he was ready.

My dad and I work together all the time, we may not always have the same opinion but at the end of the day it is all left in the past.

Can you this summer post another video of screening gravel with camara located at different angles of the screen. Would like to see how effective it is at screening and what production a static screen will produce.

I’ll do my best but as of now I don’t have any jobs lined up that require screene gravel. I’m sure that will change so I will keep it in mind.

Wonderful video, much better then others on par with the screening video that [farmerjoy] titled [rock separator] made a few years ago. I take it from the label on the screen that a local garage made the screen, it works great. Would you care to describe the screen for us. the dimensions of it, what bracing is under the screen mesh. the size of the screen mesh. the slope of the deck it does not appear to be very steep for a screen that does not vibrate but it works well. Little low for the size of loader you use JD 624K with 3 1/2 yard bucket; could be like 2 feet higher, then more screened gravel storage under screen before you ave to remove it. Ever thought of welding a three sized box under the box screen to increase the height of the screen. Thank you for the video enjoyed it. I saved it on bookmarks.

The screen was made in Maine roughly an hour from me, they make a lot of gravity screens and most are made to fit the loader that will be used. Ours was made to fit our old 544A and it is a great size for that loader. The 624k is a bit big for it but if you feed it a bit slower it works just fine. Not a high production screen but it was cheaper than a vibe and we don’t use it much anyway. I’m not sure of the angle, it could be a bit steeper. It is very easy to plug it even more so with loam. It has a 2 inch top screen and a 4 inch main screen made out of welded 3/4 inch solid square bar, it has heavy duty bracing under the main deck but I’m not sure of the size. We have talked about adding to the bottom to change the angle and raise it but since the 544A is the machine the feeds it the most it’s not a huge deal. I would get you better measurements but the screen it currently inaccessible because of snow. Thanks for watching.

@@TB-jj9tu Thank you for your quick reply. you state it is very easy to plug. I have been for some time thinking of acquiring one of this type of gravel screener, would you communicate in some depth what you are referencing as to very easy to plug. Noticed the gravel was dry wondering what it screens like if the gravel was wet? Loam vs gravel difference screen performance? Thinking about how you described the screen construction and looking at the image in video, those 3/4 inch solid square bars are they directly under the 2 inch square screen mesh, [by the way what size is the screen mesh surface area length by width], and run from top of screen and slope down to the discharge end of oversize rock fall off area. The heavy duty bracing under the [ main deck which I think are the 3/4 inch bars] there looks like three of them from the right side to the left side of the screen box correct? So if the 2 inch screen mesh is taken off, and it looks like it just hangs on the screen box from the top with out being bolted to the screen box frame, it then becomes a grizzly with 4 inch spacing between the 3/4 inch bars,I think that would not really work as 3/4 inch square rod is not very strong to resist rock damage. By the way has the screen ever been damaged if so what happened? Thank you for your knowledge much appreciated.

By it getting plugged I mean the material does not go through the screen or fall off the back it just lays on the top and blocks the openings. When that happens I just lift up on the entire screen until the material slides off. This is really only a problem when trying to screen loam/top soil. Gravel rarely ever has this problem. I don’t know the dimensions of the screen surface best guess is 10 feet wide 8 feet deep and yes the 2 inch top screen lays directly on the fixed 4 inch grizzly.. the top screen is only held on by two big hooks that wrap around the frame of the main deck at the top of the slope and can be easily removed with the loader no tools needed. As far as damage, I have run some pretty big rocks over the main deck and I have not seen any damage. By rocks I mean rocks the size of a V8 engine block, but I take as much care as possible not to damage things.
