No pilot controls on that puppy!…they had “John Deere” controls because they were set up like a crane was and the boom lever was always the lever closest to the boom and seeing how the cabs were on the right side of the boom, the left lever was used as the boom function… I remember asking an old fella back 30 years ago when I first started in the business why there was John Deere control and cat control and he told me because back in the day the old guys liked it that way so that when they were digging trench and they had the bucket full they could boom up and swing out of the trench and smoke a cigarette at the same time!..lol!!…that could very well be true but it’s really a hold over from the crane days and cans on the right side of the boom!

This machine along with the 215 Cat and the Drott 40 were all part of the 3/4 yard class we all learned on in the 80's. 40'000 lb. Machine.

Got a strong healthy engine still. This rig will still be working for many more years to come. Very nice!

Great video of this classic, good sounding and looking machine. There are a couple hiding out in my region, even an A model with the smooth "crane pads". Enjoyed seeing this one move for a few moments. Great to see.

Sweet machine. I remember the old 690A series that John Deere built. The carbody and undercarriage were built by Hitachi and it was a shovel type.

Hi Thanks for the video It's nice to see the old girl in that shape and running Somebody loves it, Compared to so much of the stuff you find around in the bush. That JCB the other day was sad It looked like a rarer 3 D series like the nice one I still run here. I'm guessing somebody swapped the hoses to get this JD on Cat pattern. A guy in town has a similar Deere he got cheap for a demo job on his grain elevator but it used more hyd oil an hour than fuel ! . They did that with the controls so it was the same pattern as the back hoe loader they run, Modern servo control pattern changers sure make that a nice clean quick job .
