John Deere Hay Conditioners The 21 Crimper and 31 Crusher

This is an excellent video!!! Though I do hold a little bias, as I'm a fan of pull type conditioners. Didn't know that JD had two different machines, steel over steel & rubber over steel. Also interesting is what they had to do to circumvent IH's patents as well as the other manufacturers. When I get time, I'll have to do some research & see who all they had to pay royalties to. I suspect Cunningham to be one of them.

My dad had one of those metal rolled John Deere crimpers back in the early 60"s. For the most part it did a good job but could be a real pain in the ass when for some unknown reason the rolls would wrap up solid. You had to keep a REAL close eye on it. It would wrap up solid and slip the clutch then you would spend 15 0r 20 minutes trying to cut it out. He also had the hitch to pull it behind a JD No.5 mower but it never really worked very well. Therefore my mon spent many an hour on the metal pan seat of an old Allis Chalmers WC with hand brakes running it because my brother and I were to young. Oh the good old days!!

@@ikonseesmrno7300 there are times it would be nice!! We have gone back over with the discbine, had to cut regrowth and lift rained on crop at the same time.. it did a good job

Good equipment :) however not nearly as entertaining operating these as it is with a Versatile number 103 swather with conditioner :) especially on very hilly ground!
