I remember Dad having a R when I was in highschool. Loved that old tractor. Friends in school thought I was crazy when I told them how it started with a pony motor.

Don't know how many hrs. you have spent driving an R, but to say they steer hard is ridiculous. I've spent many hrs. discing over plowed ground with an R and they steer really well without PS. Of course PS is a nice addition and that is a beautiful restoration!! I have a '51 & '53 in the barn right now.

Roger, didn't mean to imply they steer easily, but in their time they were way ahead of the game. As a 12 yr. old I drove a '49 R on steel and it was light years ahead of WD9's & LA Case . We referred to the 9's as thumb busters. The R would never jerk the steering wheel away from you. Enjoyed your review of this R......thanks @@rogermiller7411
