Beginning repairs on a J R B side dump bucket for a John Deere loader. Evaluating the extent of repairs needed and begin by removing the side dumping hydraulic cylinder for rebuilding including some stubborn pin removal.

Salt is horrible, A few winters ago we had our Zx 200 stock piling salt and after about a month the salt had pitted the boom and stick cylinders. Requiring a complete rebuild... A cool trick that saved the undercarriage is Spraying diesel on everything, Diesel eats the salt .

Nothing like pumping on a turbo muffler with an incompressable liquid to extract a corrosion frozen pin. Good work.

No, there is plenty of loose dusty parking lot sand floating around which I sweep to the wet areas like speedy dry and shovel up later.

Looks like it's been working in the road salt. Sometimes the magnetic drill press method works good but its slow, but a carbon arc method works much faster.

Hi, yes, most of what it does is salt and snow duty, my mag drill has a very large base and would be a pain to have wrestled into a workable position on this job, but have used it many times, had this not worked, I would have exothermically removed them, thanks for the view.

Hi Jack, I don't as long as it's not so thick as to require any additional heat past the normal welding. sometimes if I'm working on a very thick section I will heat it with the dragon torch before welding. If I'm going to be hardfacing I always preheat, as experience has shown me it will peel of like a banana if it is not preheated. Thanks for the compliment ..... Mike

What a great example of total neglect of equipment......I bet those grease fittings havent seen grease since it was sold to this customer. Was the maintenance guy sleeping on the job? I also wonder why you didnt spray a can of good ole PB Blaster in those joints before trying the extraction. I am amazed at what some good penetrating fluid can do to free rusty pins/bolts.

crazeyspivey Hi crazeyspivey, I think you are correct, there was grease, but it didn't appear to have gotten into the area it was supposed to have. The customer had tried all the traditional methods of penetrating fluids, heat and beat, etc. to get something to work, they called me in when none of that would work, and that all led to what you see here. By default those axels/pins for the hydraulic cylinder should have threaded holes for extraction. But sometimes you don't have a choice..lol
