Sorry to contradict you, but you really don't make him cry. You sure disappoint him though. But I think what you're trying to do is pretend to yourself like you've bested him or have some sort of power over him without actually having earned it. I would definitely love to see you confront him on camera and see how well that interaction goes. I have a feeling one person's going to walk away crying but it probably won't be John.

From each according to their ability is an admission that people have different abilities, and even those abilities have different skill levels. So even Marx would admit that people aren't equal. That's the entire reason for a leftist economy, actually. So that people aren't left behind and people having their needs met benefits everyone. I think there are obvious problems (not moral ones but logistical) with this idea, I'm just correcting Doyle's strawman.

As a Christian I will explain this right now: just because the bible describes a terrible event does not mean it endorses it nor does it make it a "Christian value" ok?! I'm not here to tell anybody to be a Christian, I'm just setting the record straight. Would you deem Cornell West as the same as John Doyle simply because they both believe in the same deity? I'm pretty sure you and Cornell West share the same values, him being Christian and you being an atheist doesn't change that.
@amandagarcia28482 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm atheist myself and find progressive Christians worth supporting. The world would be a much better place if Christians were all progressive, that sadly isn't the case.

Being Christian is okay, but using that religion as a means to be a terrible human is bad. If religion is your scapegoat, if you're saying "It's not me it's my religion" then we need to disprove that religion = bigotry.

It's hilarious, because "the devil" is a 1400's fan fiction of the bible. He doesn't appear in any biblical text, except as "Satan" which isn't "the devil", it's a prosecutor. When Jesus was in the desert, and said, "get behind me satan" he was being metaphorical, as in second guessing his convictions. These people vehemently believe in a character that isn't even part of their religion or the religions they appropriated from. It's the effect of a bafoon character in stage plays becoming a scape goat for a Puritan movement and then becoming a fictionalized anti-god. The seven deadly sins are also, not biblical, they were drafted by Evagrius around 350 a.d. and can easily be interpreted as an early understanding of mental illness and an attempt to moralize social behaviors. The only reason why they have such prominence today, is mostly because of Dante's Divine Comedy. Which is also, incidentally, the origin of our modern concept of the underworld. "Hell" itself being appropriated from saxons and nordic beliefs of Hel.
