Fantastic. Phil is one of the best bassists around. Top session and live player and all round nice guy. Great to see him endorsing such fab products - I had a J-retro in a 75 jazz for a while and it sounded huge! Great idea to bring out the P-bass version.

Anybody know what type of P-Bass that was? Looks like the Pino sig. model though I could be wrong.

The 5 string SPECTOR bass I play has an 18 volt system in it.Im soon to install the JE uni preamp.Should I keep that same power or should I change it back to 9 volt?

If he changes the sound going from passive to active it is a bit hard to compare. Would like to know if the Bass set in passive mode would sound like before it was changed? Overall sounds fantastic.

Does anyone know why John East has stopped production of the p-retro?
@JohnEeRetro7 жыл бұрын
We are working on getting it out there again and have a small batch already made. Sourcing the rechargeable batteries have held things up but we now have a new source which should be online shortly.

What a wonderfull sound! Perhaps is this P-Retro preamp something for in my MIK 1989 Squier P bass.. Are they for sale in the Netherlands?

Nice video. I've been using an Audere in one of my P/J basses, but I like the tone options with your preamp. Simple---clean---and very musical. Am I assuming correctly that it is easy to reverse the active/passive push-pull feature so that when the tone control is down it is in active mode?

Ah ha, fair enough. Just for the record I have your Musicman replacement preamp. It's fabulous, like having a completely different bass... but still a Stingray !

Kinda surprised that i actually liked the active P bass. It didnt lose the amazing qualities that only a P bass can do - at times it enhanced it, didnt seem to ever "hurt the tone"so thats a WIN.....I didnt care for the J bass however.

This sounds great I really don't mind spending this kind of money for someting that works. BUT, all rechargable batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. Do you replace the recharagable battery for free when that happens? Is the rechargable battery easily replaceable by a standard batter or am I left with a hunk of junk in 4 years when the battery loses it's ability to hold the charge? This is why "green" tech SUCKS. Just give me a 9 volt option.

Sorry but you just gave more reasons to stick to passive basses as they sound so much better in all of the different styles you have demonstrated in this video... Thank you for confirming my preference...

nice, but way to expensive for. I can upgrade pickups and a preamp for the same or less.
