I kept waiting for something to click that would make him not look quite so foolish, but that moment just never came. He was just flat out in the wrong with everything he did (or was at least involved with), and when the dust settled, refused to take any accountability. He was everything wrong with jan 6th. Back in 2015-16, when the election was ongoing, djt was saying things to the effect of, "if I lose, it's illegitimate/fraud...". He was already set on throwing as big a tantrum as possible if he didn't win. An honest admission of defeat was simply never in the cards for him, ever. I despise what he has done to the political climate, and for empowering such a loud following. It's embarrassing to have these people represent my country on the world stage. It feels like the two sides have never been so divided. You watch, there will probably be comments calling me a 'libtard' for criticizing their dear leader, despite the fact I'm center right. I just don't agree with djt.

Maybe Eastman spent so much time in his ivory tower that he failed to take careful regard of what all practicing attorneys know by heart - if you're going to make a legal claim in court, it better be "warranted by existing law or by a nonfrivolous argument for extending, modifying, or reversing existing law or for establishing new law." The fact that Eastman went begging for a Trump pardon after his frivolous legal arguments were rejected shows not only that he knew what he was doing, but that he showed little respect for our laws and Constitution.

I think I looked at the formula for how SSA calculates benefits and it was so complicated and beneficiaries don't tend to know that formula. Soc Sec should disclose how the benefits were determined when the letter of award is given.

20-25 years ago Congress and SSA messed up the lives of retired civil servants. My mother earned Social Security retirement benefits and retirement benefits from over 20 years as a federal civil servant. It took SSA over 5 years to find SSA's mistake. To save the government money, Congress decided that unlike people with retirement savings and benefits from private sector work civil servants could not access both. They called it double dipping. Of course, Congress ignored that SSA retirement was set up as a base and was not supposed to fully fund anyone's retirement. Personal savings and work-based retirement plans were to make up the difference for sufficient living. Regarding my mother, SSA stopped all of one and reduced the other to an amount she could not meet basic needs. Fortunately, after many years of widowhood she married a few years before her retirement to a spouse who had sufficient retirement to cover their basic needs, and she died before he did.

The missing piece in this report pertains to the Electoral Count Act of 1887, which states " the vice president, or president of the Senate -- "in the presence of the two houses when met as aforesaid, and read by the tellers, and all such returns and papers shall thereupon be submitted to the judgment and decision in response to certifying electoral votes". Yes, somewhat vague but is a part of the constitution. A revision was added in 2022 by congress and is called the Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transitional Improvement Act of 2022. Few people know of this. Another missed opportunity to increase public constitutional knowledge and narrow the polarizing divide we are living. Why did 60 minutes leave this out?
@B_Bodziak
@B_Bodziak 11 ай бұрын
"The , Vice President SHALL certify the election." You're not looking at the full context. The states certify their own votes. Unless a state refuses to verify its election, the VP's role is to simply open the envelopes and read the EC votes. After reading , the VP SHALL certify the election. In 2022, Congress didn't change anything. All they did was clarify the Act so that people like Eastman can't attempt to twist the meanings of its words.

@@B_Bodziak The 2022 Reform Act did revise the previous section to avoid future delays in presidential transitions. It was sponsored by Collins of Maine (Republican) and Manchin of WV (Democrat). The 1887 Electoral Count Act has been applied before and in 2020 we did have electoral counts that were not validated by states. This election has not been the first or last to be muddied by controversy. One man, Eastman, did not create this controversy. It was the product of a divisive society. God Bless You and Happy Holidays.

"I Feel > Objective Truth" and "We just want an easy button to close this gap without recognizing the collateral damage that could cause". Please stop giving people like this a platform. Just because they have a suit and tie, it does not mean they have anything worthwhile to say. Traders to the country. Their actions speak for themselves. Excuse my metaphor, but You are providing beavis and butthead a national audience. They call you fake news. Then you ask to interview them. And they gladly oblige.There’s something deeply wrong with this scenario and goes to the roots as to why people continue to trend towards not trusting you or their government.

The benefit of Social Security overpayment money bounhing around in the economy should also be rescinded...the benefit isn't simply to the payee. The payees spend that money. Which gets taxed...

It seems weird that so many millions of intelligent Americans can be so disconnected from reality. On the other hand, those same Americans also believe in religious myths without a shred of evidence so I guess this disconnect from reality should have been expected.

There it is folks. If the government demands that you pay them back a whole bunch of money that was their mistake all you have to do is have your issue aired on 60 minutes and all will be forgiven.

@@NobodyCares6996 You didn’t “hear it wrong”, you just didn’t pick up on what you heard. Here’s what happened; 28:08 The three families featured in this story had their debt waived after 60 Minutes asked SSA about their specific cases *_because_* it had already been proven, or admitted by SSA, that the errors were the fault of the agency. The debt wasn’t waived simply because 60 Minutes asked about them. Meanwhile, SSA mailed out 1,028,389 overpayment notices in 2022 and 986,212 notices in 2023 and in 2022 SSA collected $3.354 Billion towards overpayments. These three cases weren’t even close to being a single drop in the bucket. Go back and read this post from the top. It suggests that showing this video to the SSA will cause the agency to back off from overpayment claims. You know as well as I do that’s BS. At most we can thank 60 Minutes for expediting the claims of these three individuals against SSA. Were there other people and stories that 60 minutes chose _not_ to include? No doubt. I admire 60 Minutes and their reporting but I bristle at the suggestion that a media company has the power to influence a Government Agency by threatening a report …and so should you.
