John Eyzen - Le duel (Romeo et Juliette)

Quel talent ce John Eyzen... il n’y a pas un moment où il est déconnecté de son personnage. Présence sur scène constante, très bon danseur, très bon acteur et la voix est très bien. Surtout qu’elle n’est aucunement abîmée malgré tous les rires qu’il sort tout au long du spectacle. Sa mort arrache même des larmes. Il a très bien cerné son personnage: fantasque, qui ne tient pas en place, qui adore provoquer ses ennemis, qui a le rire facile, qui agit avant de réfléchir, libertin, qui aime frimer et qui a une certaine fierté. C’est incroyablement bien interprété ici, rien que son visage est très expressif passant de la colère à la folie, de la haine à l’altruisme jusqu’à prendre le coup à la place de Roméo.

As a performer (ballet dancer for eleven years), after he gets stabbed it looks almost like a cue to stop hiding your exhaustion. What could be seen as "he just got stabbed and kind of can't walk" I recognize as "finally, he's been jumping all over the place anyone else would collapse". I have horrible stamina for some reason, and if I were playing Mercutio I would straight up fall asleep on stage. I have collapsed over less in rehearsal and I'm not sure where John is keeping his extra energy reserves. Excellent job either way!

On voit tellement que John Eyzen est quelqu'un qui sait analyser son personnage ! Pour ma part, j'ai passé ma jeunesse avec la version de 2000, mais dès que j'ai vu celle-ci, tellement plus pointue au niveau des détails, la question de préférence ne se pose même plus : les gestes de la mort qui orchestre tous les déplacements des personnages est mille fois plus extraordinaire que la première, et qu'elle aille voir Mercutio est mille fois plus justifiée à cet instant, plutôt que d'aller voir Roméo. Quant à Mercutio que dire ... Encore une fois, John Eyzen a tout à fait compris qui était son personnage : sa bisexualité, sa mobilité, sa joie de vivre sont trente mille fois plus explicite dans cette version que dans la 1ère où il était très neutre, et où on ne ressentait vraiment aucune haine contre Tybalt, pas plus que son amour pour Roméo. Là, il y montre absolument tout et c'est un régale de l'entendre chanter en y ajoutant émotions/sentiments/justesse. Un immense bravo, j'espère qu'il arrivera à percer autant qu'il le souhaite, et qu'il s'amuse toujours autant sur scène, parce qu'il y a un grand pouvoir d'empathie sur le spectateur. Tout à fait brillant ^^ !

Et dire qu'il y en a certain qui disent que la version 2010 et une insulte pour la première version. Personnellement je trouve que dans cette version il y a plein de chose qu'on ne trouve pas dans la première version... exemple: mercutio a une plus belle voix est il et plus marrant et respecte bien se role... autre exemple. Les personnage comme le prêtre ou les lady capulet et montaigue sont plus jeune et ont une plus belle voix que dans ma première version... certe la première juliette ne pourra jamaie etre remplacer mais j'aime beaucoup cette version la aussi

I’ve been trying to figure out the acting choice of John from :52 - 1:00 . Why does he laugh when tybalt takes him by the throat but them is like ‘wtf bro?’ When Romeo breaks them apart? I love it, but I can’t quite understand the choice. Is that his realization that this battle is probably more serious than he thought?

This version of Mercutio is that he is almost totally crazy, the first one (2001) was only indifferent to many things, carefree, but not crazy. I think the writting of the character is not te same

I once found an interview that supports your theory that Mercutio gets more serious during the duel than earlier in the show from what I can remember. It was something like "he's always joking in act 1 but gets serious when Romeo's life is threatened"

That's the point- Eyzen's Mercutio is supposed to be unhinged, and personally I think it works for the 2010 production. It wouldn't for the 2001, but with the changes made to the musical especially with the change to La Folie and the addition of Je Reve, having him played so eccentrically makes sense for the narrative. In my opinion, this Mercutio portrays a Mercutio whose insanity has been a result of coping with living in a city so grounded in hate he no longer feels obligated to avoid the conflict, instead embracing a wild lifestyle just because he can. Whether you like 2001 or 2010 more is your choice, but I definitely prefer the greater depth 2010 brings to the table.

Ну не знаю, Тибальт тут какой то жестокий слишком. В прежней версии он ударил ножом и вроде как испугался итога. А тут прям маньячелло, ходит точпет пинает добивает. Ну такое. Тибальт был предыдущий человечнее, просто влюбленный дурачок, жалко его было. А тут из Тома сделали хладнокровного убийцу. Том конечно везде красавчик, но хотелось бы оставить его более человечным. Меркуцио на любителя, мне кажется, слишком перетягивает на себя внимание. Прежний Меркуцио более трагичен перед смертью. Ну и смерть тут дергается, никак не могу принять другие Смерти после красавицы Анн.

Je découvre la comédie musicale de Roméo et Juliette en 2021. J'ai beau regarder les deux versions de 2001 et 2010, Celle de 2001 est tellement mieux !! Dans le rôle de mercutio, John eyzen n'a pas l'air de haïr tybalt autant que Philippe D'Avilla, et même dans la version 2010 tout le monde en fait trop des caisses, à la limite de la bouffonnerie. Non y'a pas à dire, elle a bien changé et pas dans le bon sens !

Je préfère aussi et de loin la Mort dans la version 2001. Celle-ci est trop gesticulante quand la version 2001 hantait la scène et rôdait autour des personnages, flirtait avec ceux sur lesquels elle a jeté son dévolu. La chorégraphie à 5:00 me sort complètement de la scène tant c'est absurde. Et le maquillage Halloweenesque qu'on a fait à la comédie n'aide pas...
