John is the greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time and an incredible performer with his mic and mic stand tricks. As far as reactions go, anything that John sings is gold with over 50 years of performing, but whenever you react to John always do it to a live performance where possible and available, he is amazing live, even better than studio. This song was his biggest hit and this and many other songs from John have a powerful, empowering and positive message to convey.

Hi Lynette 😊 I remember this concert on tv when I was a little kid. Specifically this performance stuck in my mind, especially the kid who sings at the beginning of the full video in accapella. It is so wonderful to be able to relive it on KZbin in high quality ❤ I am an Aussie too. A proud South Australian. Have a great night 😊@@lynettedevries1824

John’s party trick during this song is to throw his mic stand up in the air (@ 3:40 mark during this performance) and catch it. John loves his audience to sing along, most of us have grown up with him and just love the awesome human he is!

Thanks for the reaction. I love how you let it go uninterrupted. The song was originally written in the UK as a protest against nuclear weapons. John was the first to pick it up and make something powerful out of it.

Thankyou for reacting to this great song, The song 'You're the Voice' was inspired by a 1985 nuclear disarmament rally in London, Chris Thompson, one of the writers had wanted to attend the rally but slept in and missed it, and from this, with help from 3 others, the song was born, and as you saw in the 'The Voice' trailer, Chris did not want John to sing it, but he did anyway and the rest is history, ... Wonda, I'm glad you mentioned the the mic stand 'kick-up' but you didn't mention the 'toss, catch and throw' before it, you did miss that bit? - just after the bagpipe solo, - camera angle looking over Angus's (Drummer) shoulder for the toss, this clip cuts off a little bit early, there is another clip that is a minute or so longer and shows a teenage girl from the audience jump up on the stage and kisses him, Thank you again, enjoyed your reaction. - Voted.

You’re The Voice is universal within its meaning it’s total up to the listeners interpretation . It was firstly written by Chris Thompson inspired by a nuclear disarmament protest in 1985 that he wanted to participate but overslept . Chris Thompson wanted to record it for himself but his record company talked him out of it saying protest songs are not popular at that moment in the mid 80’s . So the demo got sent out for grabs for other artists. Somehow the demo made it way to John Farnham’s manager and he listened to it before John did and knew they had something. John loved the song as soon as he heard it . When Chris Thompson manager told that Australian singer John Farnham wanted You’re The Voice Chris Thompson immediately rejected for John to record it . Because Chris was aware of Johnny Farnham era wasn’t taken seriously because John biggest hit of the 60’s was a corny novelty song called Sadie The Cleaning Lady . Chris wasn’t aware since 1980 John was taking he’s career much more seriously and even had a 4 year stint with Australian supergroup the Little River Band . John rang Chris and explained that he will record the song anyway and that he will send a copy of the finished recording to him and then he can make his mind up . Well Chris was blown away and was happy with the bagpipe solo instead of a guitar solo . But then John had another set back no record company had John on its books John wasn’t regarded as unbankable and wasn’t on anyone’s radar critics regarding him as washed up . Even FM radio was refusing to play any John Farnham . With perfect timing with one radio station playing the song and John’s debuting the song on Australian variety television show Hey Hey It’s Saturday the song becomes a massive hit 1986 and recharge John’s career beyond anyone’s imagination. You’re The Voice eventually hit number 1 John first number 1 in 16 years . It remind number 1 for 7 weeks plus catapulting the album Whispering Jack to number 1 ( John’s 12th studio album but first to hit number 1 ) the had a number 1 position for 26 weeks . Whispering Jack was first album in Australia to sell over 1 million copies and remains the highest selling album within Australia sold by local domestic artist . In 1988 John was named Australian Of The Years for making these records from an underdogs position within the industry. Australian embraces underdogs. John is now a legend is one of only handful of local artists that has outsold big international names domestically like The Beatles , Elton John , Madonna and Michael Jackson. . John lost he’s best friend manager Glenn Wheatley to COVID in 2021 and there was speculation without Glenn John will being fully retiring . In 2022 John was diagnosed with cancer a tumour was found in his mouth. John was a smoker since a young age he even enjoyed smoking cigars . He did quit cigarettes in the 1990’s . So he had a 12 hour operation removing his jaw to remove the tumour plus reconstructive surgery . John is now cancer free and just enjoying his time with his family.

Thanks. I'm glad you've discovered John. He's such a great singer and deserves to be better known by the general public outside Oz - he's well known to musicians, having sung with so many including Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Tom Jones, Laura Branigan, Richard Marx, Coldplay etc etc As has probably already been said, he can sing anything.

As @janeattherock has already mentioned the origin of the song. I'll tell you about what it means to Australians. It is still played at every major event across the country, from Australia Day events, to New Years Eve fireworks, sporting grand finals and anywhere Aussies gather for celebrations. It synonymous with fighting back against domestic violence, war, and to give a voice to anyone who has been downtrodden. This song was used recently in the video advert to advocate for the unsuccessful "Yes" campaign in the 2023 Australian Indigenous voice referendum, which sadly caused a lot of backlash for John from people agianst giving aboriginals the right to have a voice in parliament. A topic that he has always been very supportive of. Once you have had a chance to react to some more of Johns other songs, you will see a recurring theme in the songs he chooses to record or perform, especially the ones he wrote himself. You will discover many of his songs have a similar theme for world peace and equality among people. His is renound for his philanthropy, his kindness, his humbleness, his love of his fans and the people he works with and the help he has given other performers to get them up the ladder. ❤❤❤ My next suggestion is a song that not many have reacted to, but is a perfect example of the type of music he writes. It reflects on the raw deal we have given to our indigenous peoples and that we should see value in their ways and do somethging to change it. You guys are great. You need to react to John with the other great Aussie legend Jimmy Barnes. John and Jimmy sing “when something is wrong with my baby” Jimmy is a solo singer but is Also the lead singer of the Australian band cold chisel. Cold chisel are considered probably the best band from Australia even ahead of AC/DC and INXS. Is you react to cold chisel and more of John Farnham you will get more subscribers. Any John Farnham song you react to will be great Jimmy Barnes (solo) singing “a change is gonna come” Cold chisel singing “Flame trees” “Khe Sahn” “Bow river” “Cheap wine” “Forever now” Plus many more ❤

This is clearly an anti war song. "We're all someone's daughter, we're all someone's son, Yet we look at each other, down the barrel of a gun." It doesn't get much more anti war than that. He is encouraging people to speak out against war.
