John Force hints at retirement after NHRA Epping win

John Force has always been my favorite NHRA Funny Car driver. I started following drag racing when i was about 11 or 12 years old, and I'm 55 now.. I live within 15 miles of the now closed Atlanta Dragway in Commerce Georgia so it was easy for me to attend the Southern Nationals every year, which I pretty much did until it closed in 2021. I actually had a fairly lengthy conversation with John one night following a Friday evening qualifying session while waiting for a table at a local steakhouse there in Commerce. He asked about what to eat there, if I was a local, how long I had been a drag racing fan, and even about my family... the whole bit. He is just a regular guy and very easy to talk to, loves conversation, and doesn't seem to meet a stranger, and most of all he's very humble. If he does retire soon I wish him the best, he is the best.

He stated he can’t and won’t retire for at least 2 more years because he is under contract with Peak & Chevy.

It was after he won the Event on Sunday. He beat Austin Prock, his hired gun, in the final. He was oddly quiet without words, and then let it be know that when he's ready, Prock will replace him. Then he said "I'm there," and handed Prock the Wally. John turned 75 in May. I suspect we'll get a farewell tour though. A year of marketing opportunities!
