12:00 the sound of those kids playing in the streets is so surreal to me. You don’t hear that sound too often anymore in the inner cities. But could you imagine being a kid growing up playing in little Italy next to John Gotti’s social club? That’s pretty cool imo. The safest neighborhood around.

Everyone just remembers those who cooperated Additionally, I don't think Gravano claims Gotti was going to rat on him. He never would. He wanted Gravano to take the fall, so that Gotti could remain on the streets as the boss. That's quite a significant violation of their lifestyle, even if it isn't "ratting". Not to mention all the other damage he did

Probably the most iconic gangster of all time. Every single “stereotype” cartoon mob boss was easily based off this man as well as that image in media. When you think of a mob boss you either think of a Don Corleone or a John Gotti persona. The first one was obviously being the one that has the better overal representation/image.

But the Chin's a stone cold killer, no doubt about it. And in Sammy Gravano's own words, "you had to be a serious guy to be around Chin." This lets me know that Fat Tony & Funzi were heavyweights & killers, too. The Genovese Family really did run things, now that it's all out there.

@@bazil83 It wasn't a good time, considering this was when law enforcement really started doing its job. But it was the worst for the Gambinos, because of all this. In the time between 1980 and when Gotti went to prison, I think they went from being the largest and most successful family to an absolute mess. The Bonannos did have a good time here though, considering they missed out on the Commission Trial heat and associated indictments. Donnie Brasco was actually an easy hit to take compared to what was coming next for everyone else

Walters didnt spend a day in jail. The FBI stated that Franzese never testified against anybody. He knew lots but said nothing and served his time

Agreed. Without informants giving the government the location where Gotti went to talk privately , there wouldn’t be any tapes. If the government wants you, it’s just a matter of time before they get you. The FBI has all the time, money and manpower on their side. Informants and cooperators are the icing on the cake.

He publicly embarrassed the government by being acquitted so many times due to fixed trials, and was basically thumbing his nose at them like he was untouchable. This made them want him really badly, more than any other gangster. They may not have found out about the opportunity to bug the apartment if they weren't so dedicated to getting him.

@@southie3177 gangsters have been walking free on fixed verdicts forever. It was his attitude that made them want him so badly. All other bosses, at least from older generations, would have taken the not guilty verdict and gone quiet, which is how you're expected or supposed to act in that life. They'll still come after you, you're still the boss, but you're no more a target than any other boss. He made himself and the family the primary target for about 3-4 years
