"I'm hesitant to take the credit although I appreciate the sentiment." Such a John Green response to being told you revolutionized YA literature, what a classy guy.

"Despite the reality of suffering and of loss, hope is the right response to consciousness." I wrote this one down on a scratch piece of paper because it felt important. I will forever be grateful for this silly, earnest man.

the “fear of using stickers” bit reminds me so much of the end of the sunset review when he decides to stop giving nothing 5 stars (which ALSO reminds me so much of the part in tfios when hazel says she only ever rates her pain up to 9 because she’s “saving” her 10)

Ironically, when I smell books, I transport to my past. I go to places my grandparents' house, the small library that I rode my bike to, my 8th grade classroom. I can't wait to smell this book!

Just received the book. It took me back to Waldenbooks from the 90s--probably around Christmas.

Every time John says, "Hope is," I immediately finish his sentence with "a thing with feathers..." I've heard him read that whole stanza so many times I've almost forgotten what my writing department director's voice sounds like. She sounds a little more husky as John Green, but I like both versions... John saying it is like a lullaby, while my boss saying it was more a call to focus for everyone in the room-I've had a lot of instructors (both who taught me and who I taught alongside) open their courses with poetry, perhaps to ground ourselves in writing (was not the only thing she read, but since I taught undergrads under her and often helped with courses while getting my totally unrelated degree. Thank you for a wonderful, completely cringe-free review! Okay, so maybe I had a half-second cringe when it went from him talking very openly and deeply to "back to scratch and sniff stickers," but his laugh took all the cringe away so it didn't set. I remember being told, too, that the stickers would wear out, so the ones I loved the most I was also most careful about overusing in case they ran out-and I stored them maybe not perfectly but in those photo binders that are like cheap easy quick laminating for things you might want to move and not always leave covered. (I could separate them that way and didn't worry the smells would all mix together in a ziploc bag-not like I understood how they worked which is magical to think actually existed in the 1980s until I realize some of the medications that have been in widespread use-and are still a first line choice-since the 60s or before! Scientists are magical-especially the ones at 3M. :P)

This book really helped me understand the world better. I love the positive and inquisitive nature it has. It is especially important to me since it was the first book I have actually finished in maybe a year.

Please up the volume for future uploads. I had to increase mine by 150% to even arrive at the bare minimum of being able to hear what was being said, and it meant that any notification or other sound coming through my PC blared at ridiculous decibels. Thank you!

I would normally disagree with this kind of tactic, but I’ll make an exception because, if anybody sees an interview with John Green about his book, this is the one they should see.

3:51 well, we are all the protagonists of the anthropocene. that's the entire point of the anthropocene, that we're the dominating species? i think looking at it this way helps me, honestly. just like a protagonist, the human race can be defeated. just like (most) protagonists, the anthropocene will end. for a protagonist, a disease may end them. for all of us... it's the same. although we are the main part of the anthropocene, that doesn't make us indestructable. like Aza in TATWD, we can be brought down by things like pandemics in the way she was brought down by her ocd.

I honestly don't understand the "virtual tour" idea. He's vaccinated. People are traveling again. Masks are off and we're all fine again. So why not do a regular tour?
@omarabdelkadereldarir74583 жыл бұрын
I think it's because - though I might be wrong - there's still a risk even after getting vaccinated, but a lower one. It's also hard to make sure everyone's vaccinated.
@johnbartholf7773 жыл бұрын
@@omarabdelkadereldarir7458 From what I've read and heard, it's almost impossible to get sick or even to transmit it once one is fully vaccinated, and I think anyone showing up to a John Green book tour would be smart enough to be vaccinated :) Anyway, I'm sure he'll be back to the regular tours soon enough.

It is not over ‘till it’s over. A sufficient amount of a population, probably as high as 90% should be vaccinated in order to effectively block the virus from propagating. Due to misconceptions, egotistical considerations and misinformation campaigns, in many parts this degree of immunity will not be met, with continuing hazards to personal health, and economy. Therefore it is important to keep your distance and even mask up a) to limit any further spreading to the utmost, b) to remind others that the fight is still on. No fight was ever won quitting it halfway. Do not put your direct interest first, but that of society as a whole, this pays off better for you too.

@@Calligraphybooster "The emerging data confirms what many of us thought would be the case-that not only do the vaccines stop symptomatic COVID, but they also make it highly unlikely that someone can even be infected at all. I think the preponderance of the evidence supports the fact that vaccinated individuals are not able to spread the virus." www.jhsph.edu/covid-19/articles/new-data-on-covid-19-transmission-by-vaccinated-individuals.html Johns Hopkins AND the CDC say we can drop the masks.
