As an adult passenger, I have flown well over 1,000,000 commercial air miles. However, my first two childhood flights, with John Hatz at the controls will always be the most memorable. My first flight (9 yrs old) was in his yellow cub. I took notice when I saw duct tape holding the door closed. The second flight (12 years old) was in his CB1. Both taking off from grass strips near Merrill, WI. My parents knew nothing about me going up in the CB1 until I rode my bike back home to tell them about the adventure. As long as I was with John, they knew I was safe. John was an amazing asset to the community. He is missed in the Gleason, WI area to this day. Thank you for the memories, Mr. Hatz.
