Not a bad imitation of Emily's Dad! He played for my cricket club and was a pretty mean spin bowler besides being a very senior criminal barrister. He has a great sense of humour. We were chatting in the bar after a Sunday friendly game once and I said that I had heard he was in line for a High Court Judgeship. This is equivalent to being a Judge in Federal Court. He said he had turned it down as he had to pay for two daughters in university!

Until very recently High Court judges only made £181,500+ which would do a significant drop in earning for a QC who tend to make closer to (or over) £1 million. Tuition fees alone are around £10000 per year and then rich families are expected to support their kids instead of being eligible for a maintenance loan. This is a family who are accustomed to living very, very well so a drop in earnings like that would be a huge deal.
