Another great Lennon song is "Starting Over", which was released as a single just 6 weeks before he was murdered in December of 1980. But if you watch it, be sure to have plenty of crying tissues handy - the lyrics of the ballad are intermixed with photos from John's early life, his time with the Beatles, and most especially his marriage to Yoko. kzbin.info/www/bejne/poumqayFmNuja6M

IMAGINE by John "Lennon was inspired by several poems from wife Yoko Ono's 1964 book Grapefruit... Lennon later explained that the song "should be credited as a Lennon/Ono song. A lot of it - the lyric and the concept - came from Yoko, but in those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted her contribution, but it was right out of Grapefruit." And "Lennon composed the song one morning in early 1971. It was written on a Steinway piano, in a bedroom at his Tittenhurst Park home in Ascot. Yoko Ono watched on as he composed the melody, chords and most of the lyrics, and nearly completed the whole song in one short writing session." Taken from "The Story of... Yoko gets a hard time as certain people blame her for breaking up the Beatles but John really loved her so much that the American group Barenaked ladies have a song called Be my Yoko Ono

Lennon's assassination in 1980 sent (rather cynically) a number of his songs into the upper reaches of the UK chart; this being a No.1 single, despite already being nearly a decade old. The debate since has raged about whether a hugely successful (and financially secure) musician can talk about 'no possessions' or the faith necessary to support people in disadvantaged parts of the world - and dismiss them. It's something to aspire to and maybe that's enough.

I think it tells something of Lennon & Ono that Ono is still living in the same house in front of which Lennon was killed (Dakota-building). It seems they lived quite minimally and casually by millionaire standards, even though in an expensive building.
