@@robbedontuesday Sorry for any confusion. I only thought about the performance/vocals, I didn’t really consider the writing aspect, have gotten a lot of “Where’s A Day In The Life?” But I put that in John/Paul because they both have lead vocals on it. If I did writing though it wouldn’t have as many songs for all four of the lads though (mostly George and definitely Ringo lol) so I think it’s better this way personally.

Lennons songs for the Beatles, are the best Beatles songs in my opinion, they had a edge most songs don’t, Paul is fantastic too, but it’s these songs and his voice that elevated the Beatles to the greatest band ever!

Yes, and a lot of the edge in Paul's Songs, was also from John e.g. "life is vveryy short…" in we can worrk it oout and "can't get no worse…" In I'm fixing a whole. Remembeer that Macca also contributed great ellements to John's work as well, though, e.g. the tape loops in tomorrow never knows, take it from "amazing" to probably the greatest piece of art ever written and the middle Sectionn in a day in the life, takes it from. Alsso "amazing" to again a quirkky, Highly unusual journey of a song, which is probably a rival for the aforementioned tune, in greatest ever song, along with Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen

Ranking from my least favorite to my favorite John Lennon Beatles songs (although I like and love all of them), PD: In some cases it include vocal collaborations where the song actually were written mainly by John and obviously the covers where him had the lead vocals: 90. Dig It 89. Dizzy Miss Lizzy 88. Slow Down 87. Mr Moonlight 86. Revolution 9 [Although it isn't a song as such, there are fragments of John's voice throughout the track, even if it's just a sound college] 85. When I Get Home 84. Thank You Girl[It's Lennon-McCartney but the main vocal is Lennon] 83. I'll Cry Instead 82. I Call Your Name 81. Baby It's You 80. Bad Boy 79. I Get You[It's Lennon-McCartney but the main vocal is Lennon] 78. Ask My Why 77. All I've Got to Do 76. Money (That's What I Want) 75. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) [I know it's a joke, but although it seems that everyone had fun here, it is actually a composition of John where he participates a lot] 74. I Don't Want to Spoil the Party 73. One After 909 [Written in late 50s by John and performed on a album or single until Get Back Project/Let It Be] 72. Good Morning Good Morning 71. Run For Your Life 70. Sun King 69. The Countinuing Story of Bungalow Bill 68. Doctor Robert 67. Now and Then [The demo originally written and sung by John, although touched up by the rest of The Beatles unfortunately] 66. Anna (Go to Him) 65. Mean Mr Mustard 64. Polythene Pam 63. You Really Got a Hold on Me [Lead vocals are by John] 62. It's Only Love 61. Tell Me Why 60. There's a Place [Primarily written and sung by John] 59. Not a Second Time 58. Dig A Pony 57. Please Mr Postman 56. Rock and Roll Music 55. Yes It Is [Although they are harmonies the main-central voice and writing is by John] 54. Any Time At All 53. You Can't Do That 52. It Won't Be Long 51. The Word 50. This Boy [Like Yes It Is, Although it is actually a song of harmonies, the main-central voice and writing is by John] 49. Real Love [Technically a just John song but it should have been here] 48. Glass Onion 47. Free As Bird [The same as Real love, although here the rest of The Beatles did add their things] 46. Baby You're Rich Man 45. Revolution 1 44. I'll Be Back 43. Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! 42. No Reply 41. Everbody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey 40. I'm a Loser 39. You're Going to Lose That Girl 38. I Should Have Know Better 37. The Ballad Of John and Yoko 36. Please Please Me [Written and sung primarily by John] 31. If I Fell [Although there were armonies of Paul, the main vocal and writing is John's] 30. Sexy Sadie 29. Julia 28. I'm So Tired 27. Hey Bulldog 26. Girl 25. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away 24. Don't Let Me Down 23. I Feel Fine 22. Day Tripper [Although there were Paul vocals too, the main vocal and writing is John's] 21. The Beatles are the greatest full stop. I prefer Lennon's songs but i also love what McCartney has done and George aswell, but Lennon is a natural lazy genius and my favourite artist. McCartney is a hard working songwriter who is a different kind of genius, they balance each other out perfectly. George is a spiritual songwriter who put up with the ego's of the 2 greatest songwriters ever and reached their level after some time with the brilliant While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the sublimely Beautiful Something and the golden uplifting Here Comes The Sun, then his amazing All Things Must Pass album.

John wrote about 20 songs in 1964, but only about 6 in 1967. Drugs made him less prolific. Paul became the leader of the Beatles by 1966, writing most of the singles like Paperback Writer, Penny Lane, Hello Goodbye and Hey Jude, but in the early days John was the leader and main songwriter with songs like A Hard Day's Night, I Feel Fine, Ticket to Ride and Help.

A Day In The Life “. Saludos desde León, Guanajuato. México.

It's funny that the greatest rock riff ever is not even on the list : Day Tripper. I'm a bit shocked actually...it was not only a great (superb!) riff but the whole chord progression was experimental and the choir vocals during the guitar solo was unprecedented. I know you have to make selections and not all songs could be on...but since ELO, Tommy Emmanuel and many others did cover it indicates that Day Tripper cannot be left out.. To my ears the most genial rock lick ever...

@@waynej2608 Definitely. That's what i'm saying. I am a Lennon fan but that doesn't mean i don't like McCartney i love how they balanced each other out perfectly, it seems a bit like fate to me, that it was meant to happen, the world needs the Beatles. I can't 'Imagine' a world were the Beatles didn't happen. They were a british band that totally conquered america with their music, their charm and wit, their funny haircuts, they had all the top 5 in the US singles chart. All of this helped a lot of other british artists being successful in america like the Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Them, Donovan, Procul Harum, Manfred Mann and others. Lennon and McCartney had different styles of songwriting but when they collaborated or helped the other with a middle eight or a few lines something magical happened. They became the greatest songwriting partnership ever. I love Lennon's type of music like Nowhere Man, Girl, Rain, I'm Only Sleeping, She Said She Said, Tomorrow Never Knows, Strawberry Field's Forever, I Am The Walrus and lots more, but i also love McCartney's songs And I Love Her, Things We Said Today, I've Just Seen A Face, I'm Looking Through You, Paperback Writer, Eleanor Rigby, Here, There And Everywhere, For No One, Penny Lane, Fixing A Hole, Fool On The Hill and a lot more. When you put them together and John comes up with the verses and McCartney the middle eight and they work on it you get A Day In The Life which is the greatest track ever in my opinion and i know it's regarded with lots of Beatles fans and music press as their greatest song.

Eight Days a Week was written by Paul. Listen to the vocals on the song deconstructed, Paul and John sing the whole song together. Paul not only wrote and sang the middle eight, he created the whole orchestral part, contributed the lyric "I'd love to turn you on" as well as one or two other lyrical contributions to John's part. Paul could imitate John's voice and on many songs in which they both sang lead, he did just that until he went into his high voice.

@@drmusictalk Do you hhonestly think that if that section wasn't there, it would be a masterpiece. John often said that he wasn't The cup sure if the over sophistication took some of the songs, actually detracted from the original beauty. Just something to think about. Imagine "Strawberry Fields forever", a day in the life, Help, Lucy in thhe sky, et cetera with a biit more stripped down, less production - I think if nothing else, they are still maasterpieces. In fact, Most of John's Work, is lyrically so interesting that it would stand alone as poetry, without any of the music And the dreeamy delivery also makes me think how amazing it might have been without the overproduction

Where is "a Day in the life", that is predominantly wriitten by Lennon and if you take Pcauls section out, it is still in the top 3 out of all the Beatle songs, In my opinion. It's John dreamy, cynical and morbid/Nihilisti lyrics and deliivery off them, which makes the song great and Paul's midsection tweaks It,but making it only a little more unusual

John didn’t write “Money”, “Twist and Shout,” “Please Mr. Postman,” etc. if this is just songs John sang on, okay - but then those should be ranked higher as the first two are perhaps his two greatest vocal performances.

Hmm, if there's something I wouldn't give Paul, it's the edge. Alot of those tracks are a little boring for me, maybe because he was so fixed in his ideas that the group dynamic was kind of missing, unlike with John who would ask what suggestions the others had. But each Beatle had their strengths and weaknesses and the others were great at compensating for them.

The best Beatle? Probably, but never underestimate good old Paul. Judging by the solo records McCARTNEY is the greatest BEATLE with masterpieces like BAND ON THE RUN, RAM, TUG OF WAR, CHAOS AND CREATION in the BACKYARD, McCARTNEY 1 and 3, EGYPT STATION and last but not least FLAMING PIE. Lennon only has LENNON/PLASTIC ONO BAND (probably the greatest of the Beatle solo records) and IMAGINE. But the discussion is pointless : both are arguably the greatest composters of modern song of the 20th century.

Both wonderful artists. For me when the Beatles were a band I’d rank them 1 John Paul 3 George But for solo careers 1 George Paul 3 John Paul was really consistent for me, on both sides. George blossomed into an amazing artist and made my favorite album of all time, All Things Must Pass. John made some good stuff solo wise but I think his best was during the Beatles.

John only had 5 years oTof a solo career, bringinng Sean up without writing anything for 5 years supporting Yoko's creative endevours. Also, John's work after the Beatles was focused on introspection and Catharsis to underrstand himself better and improve his relations. This as well as social commentary to effect meaningful change and comment deeply on the human condition. Love Macca's solo stuf also, but ultimmately, it's a continuation of his beatles stuff, beautifullly varying and playing around with song structures and covering superficial themes touchinng the surface level. Unlike Paul, John always wanted to leave Previous styles behind him and move forwards a diifferent way, hence not writing even a single Sentimental ballad (Except the cathartic Julia) after rubber soul, having written plenty of beautiful ones before, whereas Paul continued to write similar ballads, throughout the entire backend of The Beatles catalogue, amongst some original sounding and funky stuff. You have to ask yourself what you are in musc for the end at the end of the day *It's quite telling that upon the Beattles termination, Lou Reed was asked what he thought of the Beatles and called their music inauthentic "garbage", just like he called the vast majority of the rest of popular music "garbage". By the 1980s, Lou had completely changed his mind on John, but not the other 2. Ultimately he felt that John became a True artist in properly laying his entire heart out there, understanding himself and providing music that commentated on the human condition, as well as progress real societal issues. Lou made a point of playing a renditioon of "jealous Guy" that John's commemoration and called "Mother" 1 of tthe greatest songs ever written. He didn't play at Paul and George tributes, or comment on their material, other than his garbage comment

I agree. Lennon has overall more soul in his voice than McCartney. McCartney is a genius, as was Lennon, but I think he is somewhat overrated as a singer. Let me explain why I think this. One example is Oh Darling!, a song I never particular cared for, but is liked by many people. Lennon said he could have sung it better than McCartney, because it was more his style, and I agree. Why do I think this? Paul prepped for the song by singing his voice out for a week to make it raw. Lennon could have achieved a similar result naturally. But the real point is when Lennon sings a hard rocker with raw emotion, it sounds genuine, like its coming from the gut. When Paul does a hard rocker like Oh Darling! or Long Tall Sally, or Helter Skelter, to me it sounds more like an actor imitating a hard rocker, not like someone singing from the gut. Just my opinion, others may have different and equally valid opinions.
