He's from the old 1980s and 1990s stock of hard hitting safeties. Atwater, Lott, etc. Lynch also entered the league in 1993 when the Buccaneers were consistently one of the worse off teams in the league. At 1996 Tony Dungy became head coach there and started to turn things around and made the team respectable contenders. It worked out eventually as Lynch was also a key member of the champion 2002 Bucs team that leaned heavily on a great defense. As a 49er fan, I appreciate him as a GM consistently giving the team a good roster to work with. Also great seeing him stick some good hits on great running backs in this video like Marshall Faulk, Emmitt Smith, and the amazing Barry Sanders.

I'm surprised Lynch lasted as long as he did. He clearly tackles with his head. Fortunately he didn't break his neck. Watch the Notre Dame vs Stanford game from 1992. Lynch had to sit on the sideline with dizziness because he was tackling with his head.

So there's this one replay from some game in the early 2000s when there was a group of Bucs surrounding a ballcarrier and John Lynch flies in from nowhere, and boom! He hits the group of maybe 5 or 6 players and they all fall. I was hoping that replay was included. It's not. I wish I could remember more details.
