PRS made him a guitar that Fender wouldn’t change. Fender can’t sue them because the dimensions/ measurements are different. It’s a modernized strat at a more affordable price. It’s 2k with a beautiful cavity whereas a Fender custom shop will run you 6k and up. Learn to appreciate the new and learn to appreciate different tones. He still uses his Fender strats, so there’s no hate there. Just appreciation.

@@averyetvspecial1487 Perhaps in his songwriting, but not in his actual guitar playing. Most successful guitarists out there commend him for his efforts to bring the electric guitar back into pop music, even though he doesn't push the limits in most recordings. I am by no means a fan of his songwriting, but some of his live performances are killer. There's one performance of Slow Dancing where he lays down a killer solo - I think it may have been on the Late Show? And we can't deny his experimentation, and his willingness to push his own skills to the limit, in his shows with Dead and Company - I've witnessed them live, and while he is completely different than Jerry, he manages to capture the atmosphere and emotion of the music quite well.
@justyo96
@justyo96 5 жыл бұрын
@@averyetvspecial1487 I always say that the mark of a good guitar player isn't how many notes and licks they play perfectly, but how many they mess up (within reason, of course lol). It's a sign that they're pushing themselves beyond muscle memory. John doesn't push himself in his solo work, but with Dead and Company he definitely does - you can tell there are points in his improvisation where he has no idea what he's even playing. He misses notes, gets lost on the neck, but still manages to make it sound good.

Saw him live in Toronto. The guy is an incredibly talented and knowledgable guitarist. Sometimes you have guys that fire on all cylinders, sometimes guys are great at tech but are mediocre players. He knows both sides of the gamut and does both well. One of my favorite players/ songwriters.

6:48 🤯🤯🤯🤯 I did the same thing! My sister had an old high end each stereo with a 31 band EQ, and I always ended up setting it like a V. That is why I am obsessed with his tone. I like full fat lows and clear high. With subtle mids. Only push low-mids to cut through on leads, with my Klon and/or JHS Moonshine(best Tubescreamer ever, retains lows). Dude, Mayer is my tone mate.

Saw Mark Tremonti's band at a show last year (not Alter Bridge, solo project), his rhythm player had 3 silver sky's I think. Sounded incredible. EQ's were perfect from low to high, cut through but didn't overpower, he played the shit out of them too and the tuning didn't budge at all.
