My favorite acoustic piece by McLaughlin. A floating and introspective melody line which will hopefully be enjoyed for years to come.

J.M. genius. A music master and the lovely collaboration with Katia Lebeque was marvelous. This music may someday be equaled but never surpassed.

McLaughlin is not only the greatest living guitarist but also one of the great musical thinkers of our times.... he devoted considerable time mastering the complex South Indian classical music genre ( which in itself takes a lifetime to learn) and blended it into jazz and fusion music.... Its no surprise that Miles Davis recognized his talent and allowed him to compose a song and even named the song John McLaughlin in 'Bitches Brew'.....

Allan Holdsworth is much better than him on the electric guitar, technically speaking. But i agree that he is the greatest acoustic guitarist and he wrote better music then holdsworth. Both are my favourites. :)

John McLaughlin: Speed AND passion. Something Al DiMeola could never achieve.
@ericsierra-franco780210 жыл бұрын
I agree!!! McLaughlin is a truly creative artist. In this respect, DiMeola was never and is not currently in McLaughlin's class.

+Warren Mays Al DiMela is a bit overrated in my oppinion. Great musician though, but its true, the man got nothing on John Mclaughlin or Allan Holdsworth!

not true ..Dimeola is a virtuoso in his own right. Just listen to Friday Night in San Francisco.

Mclaughlin’s most inspiring pieces come in collaboration with soulful saxophone artists such as with John Surman on Extrapolation and of course this beautiful and soaring melody.

gorgeous blissful music of my teen years in the early 80s: Mclaughlin is not only my fave guitarist but his compositions have always been the best too; from Mahavishnu to Shakti then One Truth The Translators all of his DUet and Trio acoustic stuff with Larry, Paco & Al di, The Trio stuff with bass & Trilok, Heart of Things, MO84, the 4th Dimension and of course Remember Shakti and his other solo albums and concert!! All perfection. Some say Allan H was better but I'd say no; since a musician is there to make music; John ability to reach inside the put it out as music is much beyond what AH could do, though he's stunning and alien, Johns more of a classical & Indian & jazz & Flamenco & rock blues disciplined player; AH made his own style coming down from Coltrane on guitar

You know what you are talking about, John is a real 20th century (+) master of music and will be an all time great as history rolls on. Music today would be different if he never came to be, he changed things, and not only once.
