God - ABC's In Concert, NBC's Wolfman Jack & The Midnight Special & Don Kirschner's syndicated Rock Concert. What pissed me off about ALL those late Friday night/or syndicated weekend concert shows was they ALWAYS DELIBERATELY put the superior groups on at the tail end of the show, at going for 1 or 2 AM. I usually came home from hanging w/friends around 11 or so, high or drunk, and then had to sit thru almost an hour & a half of Top 40 pop hit CRAP "artists" while desperately trying to stay awake & not pass out ... 90% of the time I just couldn't do it! I missed 2 Mahavishnus, Miles Davis, & most of the Allman's final videoed concert w/Duane & Berry. In all those years of shows I only managed to stay awake for three I wanted to see: Weather Report on Midnight Special, Edgar Winter on In Concert, and Roxy Music w/ Eno, Ferry, & Manzanera on In Concert from London. To this day I've never seen any of those other missed videos. Nobody had consumer VCRs back then. STILL PISSES ME THE HELL OFF, MAN!!!! I think many of them still exist - I know Midnight Special & Kirschner's producers have marketed DVDs, but you have to subscribe or buy a shit-ton of CRAPDRECK to get the one ten minute vintage video you actually want to see. Same old frustrating manipulative, exploitative BS. Bleep that.

Whether there is a "Master Plan", or an entity who controls it, is up for debate, but what's not is that there is room to be unique within this "plan", and share a peaceful expression to all who inhabit this world. And John is a wonderful messenger of this message. I didn't know he sang! More please! And for those who slam him for just playing fast... There is a lovely dispersion of fast and slow guitar notes in this very gentle piece of music. Don't judge John by one or two recordings. His body of work is vast and quite varied. And his tribute to Jeff Beck is better than any other from the many Rock guitarists' tributes out there. John can play anything, but CHOOSES to play like himself. He's been an inspiration to me since first hearing him in the 70s, when he only played super fast, but I stayed with him as he matured as both an artist and a human being. A wonderful journey for his fans. When's his autobiography coming out - I'll pre-order today!

Gary Husband - is an English jazz and rock drummer, pianist, keyboard player and bandleader. He is also a composer, arranger and producer. @@written12 He says he starting experimenting with the idea to get a different sound. He reckons it gives him more control than using his bare skin in the same way that using fingers gives more control of the sound than playing with a pick. He also says that without gloves his hands sweat a lot which affects the sound from the strings. Playing with gloves means he doesn't have to change strings as often.

If memory serves, the DVD of his 2011 reunion w/Carlos Santana at Montreaux also has a performance of this. I thought after his tour w/Jimmy Herring a couple of years ago, he was retiring from live performances. Happy to see his struggles w/arthritis have apparently eased. Arguably the most awe-inspiring guitarist, after Hendrix, EVER. I've seen him twice: once in '73 w/the original Orchestra & their Birds of Fire tour, & once w/Santana and their Love, Devotion, Surrender tour. I can still remember the "A love Supreme. Supreme, supreme." drone chanting & long stick stage incense smell, ha. For both shows he had that huge Rex Bogue custom double necked guitar that later perished in a storage fire. Weird - for me - coincidence: I recently found out in a Metronome magazine interview that McLaughlin made the decision to form his own Mahavishnu band while talking w/Miles Davis backstage, on tour in '71 at the storied Lennie's on the Turnpike music nightclub on Rte 1 in Peabody, Mass. That's only about a mile from my old junior high school, & less than two miles from my childhood home. I was only about 12 at the time & had no idea of any of this, but I'm kinda flabbergasted now that this happened so nearby to me & where I'd soon first discover his music thanks to a close friend who's deceased now. I guess I'd assumed that he'd made such a momentous career decision back in say, New York or London. Lennie's is long since gone now, but I probably rode by it a thousand times as a kid.

@YouzTube992 жыл бұрын
@liminal You're correct; his music is almost all instrumental. Of course Gail Moran and Narada Michael sang on some of the Mahavishnu Orchestra tracks. Like you, I have never seen him sing lead in the traditional way, but he's certainly done the kind of ensemble singing they do in this vid. Here's another example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYGUfZ6goal8f5Y As a side note, I attended a performance in ~1982 and was up front making photos. At one point John introduced a song that usually has vocals and said, "I wish I could sing". I reflexively responded, "Your guitar sings for you." He apparently heard me, looked in my direction, smiled, kind of shook his head and said, "Yeah . . . yeah".
