Tony. You are the man. As McLaughlin is at the top of the list for me, I’m very excited and grateful to discover your dedicated work.

Awesome fast and emotional solos...John can be recognized by his first note.

Fantastic ! Thank you. It looks like John is playing through a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. I wonder if this is the last real amp he used before going amp - less. It sounds pretty good here, although I liked his tones much better in the early to mid 70's.

A Roland Jazz Chorus amp, with chorus, stereo. Also during his Synclavier period. I liked his "rock sound " as well on "Adventures in Radioland. ".

Some great moments in this from Mr McLaughlin in particular, despite one or two rough edges

Funny how Birelli turns out to be the more mellow, laid-back player here! :D

Great stuff. I have questions about slides though you seem not to indicate. could some of the 124 fingerings be 1_1 3? .

Good to hear someone is diving in to the nitty gritty. Certainly, my fingerings are only best guesses, not to be taken for gospel. Quite possible a slide is being used, especially if the extended lick is headed up the neck.

Hi all. I think speed and aggressive lines have their place but there are plenty of tunes to blow on and take that approach. Stella should be approached tastefully and with a lot of respect for the it's inheritant melodic beauty. Though I have enjoyed some of Mc Laughlin's work, his treatment of this tune does nothing for me. Those lightning fast lines between intro chords seems abandon any good taste. That same for much of the solo. Just waiting for the fanatical haters responses now....

Just McLaughlin showing off. Those runs have absolutely nothing to do with the tune! He plays tastefully then ruins it all with a bunch of shred speed for no reason other than to show off. It's a shame that he went down that route of putting technique in front of musicality. It should never be that way. But you find that people who have that technique always feel compelled to play like that.

You transcribed the wrong solo! I've heard machine guns sound better than this.

Agin one needs to enjoy different perspectives. I believe Miles Davis did.

Birelli is really struggling here, so very much out of his depth.

Why not just enjoy both approaches?
