John Mellencamp official bio:
John Mellencamp's career in music has spanned more than 35 years during which time he transitioned from pre-fab pop idol to one of the most highly regarded mature songwriters of a generation. Mellencamp fell in love with music at an early age and was fronting a soul band in his native Indiana by the time he was 14. He would go on to release 26 albums with domestic sales exceeding 40 million units.
He has been nominated for 13 Grammys, was recipient of Billboard's Century Award, ASCAP Foundation's Champion Award, The Woody Guthrie Award, Q's Classic Songwriter Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Mellencamp has amassed 22 Top 40 hits and holds the record for the most tracks by a solo artist to hit #1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. The social activism reflected in his songs was one of the key catalysts that launched Farm Aid, the concert series and organization that has addressed the struggle of American family farmers for more than 25 years.
A career landmark occurred on March 10, 2008, when John was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame by Billy Joel at the annual induction ceremony in New York City. He hardly rested on his laurels with the release of Life, Death, Live and Freedom (an acclaimed live disc containing most of the songs from Life, Death, Love, and Freedom), and John's participation in a 2009 summer-long tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.
Meanwhile, John continues to focus on another facet of his artistic expression: painting. He first came to New York in the 1970 with the intention of studying painting if his music career aspirations didn't pan out but started painting in earnest in the 1980's as a way to be creative in a more self-contained manner. His style has evolved over the years as evidenced by several gallery shows and published portfolios, and in recent years he has increased his output by completing over 100 new works. The exhibit "The Paintings of John Mellencamp" traveled to Museum of Art-DeLand, Florida, the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, GA and additional museums. John’s art will soon be seen at ACA Gallery in New York.
John Mellencamp continues to live and work in Bloomington, Indiana. He is the father of two sons, Hud and Speck and three daughters, Michelle, Teddi Jo and Justice.

I got hooked on him back in the mid ‘80’s. I was lucky enough to get at a thrift store back in 87 a copy of “The Kid Inside”. His early stuff is hit or miss. The remakes he recorded sound like a bar band while his original work has a lot of feeling and really show where he would eventually take his sound.
@Rick-the-Swift
@Rick-the-Swift 3 ай бұрын
@@theworldwariioldtimeradioc8676 That's because he fired all of the original high caliber musicians who helped to build "his sound". Now a days he just uses local musicians who will gladly play for free just to have the opportunity. That's why it all sounds like bar bands in the last 10-20 years. Just saying

i was born, raised and exist at 74 as a Hoosier today. I am proud that John comes from the same area. He is an Indiana treasure .Also, he grew up in Seymour, just south of where James Dean grew up on his grandparents farm in Fairmont, Ind. Hence the reference to Dean in "Jack & Diane ". Check out John's paintings. He is a fine artist in that genre too. Thank you, John, for your songs. Peace.

Great footage, Tim. Usually I consider aging rockers well past retirement age deciding to tour as very uninteresting and somewhat pathetic vanity projects but that was a great rendition by John with lively crowd engagement/involvement and humor invoked as well - from a man who has a fantastic catalogue that I have enjoyed since I was twelve or so, going back forty plus years. (I kinda felt like he was morphing into Kris Kristofferson right before our eyes watching this, haha.) Good stuff. Great song, then and now.

So because someone is old, they aren’t allowed to play concerts anymore? What a ridiculous thing to say, Iron Maiden is in their late 60s, hell, drummer Nicko McBrain just turned 70, and he still plays fantastic, the whole band does. They’re still doing multi country tours across Europe, selling out arena after arena, if you think it’s a vanity thing, you’re sadly mistaken. They do it, because they can, and they do it DAMN WELL. Age doesn’t mean jack squat, fool.

Loved all of the early JC and JCM stuff when he still had his voice before he lost it. Also Larry Crane deserved alot more credit than he seemed to get too.

I love good quotes. I think Mr. Mellencamp might have been loosing referring to one of my FAVORITE quotes as related to dads and sons. Paraphrasing…Mr. Twain something to the effect that, when I was 14 my father was the most ignorant man I’d ever met. By the time I was 21 I was amazed at how much he had learned. Again, a paraphrase and I don’t have the accurate citation at hand. All that said, kinda sounded what JCM was alluding to. Saw him at SIU/Carbondale in the early 80s. Such a great show.

Where and when was this concert? Florida? Was this the one where his grandkids were running through the aisles? And the one where his daughter sang with him?

1:08 for where he first stops the song. My suspicion: They probably were absent for Songwriting 101 (if they were even enrolled in the class at all). At 4:28 he stops the song again (briefly, to identify the bridge).
