Presbyterians are Catholics with different label. You are a "pastor" and you never read on the gospel to Yeshua saying "to nobody call father, because One is you father in heaven"? But maybe you're right, some Catholic priest fathered children in secret.

Doctrinal differences aside, the bottom line is that all those who believe in Jesus: the virgin birth, the sinless life, the death on the cross and the glorious resurrection and who come in faith to the foot of the throne are indeed part of the "one faith" of the song. These two men emphasize the true meaning of the song they are singing by their lives. Our differences might try to divide us, but Jesus brings us together in love, and that's far more powerful.

The bible says that you must repent and believe the gospel (Mark1:15) also that at the times of ignorance God winked at but now COMMANDS all men to repent (Acts17:30). God tells you in Acts3:19 that you have to "repent therefore and be CONVERTED..." so unless a catholic is converted he won't go to heaven :-(
@seamus195610 жыл бұрын
Jazmin; there isn't an adult person of my many Catholic friends who haven't made the conscious decision to follow Christ. Some conversions are momentous, some are quiet and personal, all are powerful manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Too many evangelicals look at the Catholic Church as non-Christian or even anti-Christian because they hold to a liturgical tradition of Apostolic succession. For me, when done in the right spirit, the Catholic mass is one of the most beautiful and intimate moments of worship in Christendom.

seamus1956 do you know the origin of the hostia? why is rounded? do you really know the meaning of the word "mass"? I'm sure, you don't.
@seamus195610 жыл бұрын
Lenny, while I may not know origins of words and symbology, I submit that it doesn't matter a whit if the heart of the believer is in the right place at the time of communion. I personally don't use the word "mass" and my church uses consecrated bread and not a prepared "host". Sharing the elements one to another as believers in the risen Christ is a powerful thing. God welcomes all who come to Him in true repentance and love even if the vehicle may not be the most desirable. No one can know the true heart of the individual believer except the Lord God Almighty no matter how hard they try.
@remsaga10 жыл бұрын
seamus1956 , all the creation and symbolism is from God and everything is good as declared in Genesis. The devil makes the perversion and the perversion is what is highlighted. My Hat is Off to Mr. Card for playing live with The master Musician. He did a great Job...But the message is the real key. There is one Lord over all. The Lord has chosen to dwell in the people that are called by his name. This puts to silence the arrogance of any religion. They will know we are Christians by our Love, not our religious stand point. To follow the conviction of the Holy spirit is what we will be Judged by in the end after all.

I've been a fan of Michael Card for many years now, and am continually inspired by his work. I have seen much criticism of Card's decision to release an album with a Catholic artist, over the many theological differences between the sects, about how it reduces his credibility as a true Christian, etc., etc. As an Evangelical Christian with many friends and family members still a part of the Catholic Church, I just want to say that I think it's fantastic that these two put aside the differences that have caused so much strife for centuries, and come together to worship the same God in unison. Personally, I don't think they're following a trend that ignores important fundamental details of each of their faiths, I think they're setting an example of productive collaboration that we could all afford to follow. To deny the existence of the differences between the sects is ignorant, but the differences have never been the focal point of Biblical Christian faith....

+ Aragorn Stellar That isn't the case anymore. Catholic Doctrine states "A Catholic may attend and participate in common prayer at services in Protestant churches. Catholics are encouraged to pray and sing, and they may read or preach, but a Catholic may not receive “communion” if this is part of the service." It's been that way for a while certainly more than 10 years.

I'm as atheist as one can be - still I think it's a well made and strong song. Being a guitar player myself I really got confused by the playing of Card - a right hand guitar played "upside down" - now that's something to practice... Also the Guitars are tuned down to D - after having tuned the guitar down to D you can play the song in "a minor" with the chorus being F G a and ending in E. Anyway I had this song in my mind since - i believe it was in in 1989. Today I thought I'd give it a go and google the lyrics I remembered. It was at that time (1989) the favorite song of a friend of mine called "Socke" who had an art gallery in some basement in Husum - a town in northern Germany. "Socke" was involved with the local baptists - and I think that's how he got in contact with that particular song. I heard it one or two times when I visited him in his Gallery and have hummed id in the back of my head since then. So i really enjoyed to listen to it again after 25 Years. Great songwriter, great song, great artists! Thank you for sharing this video!

Bill Gavin i have lived in monasteries for months , had mormon evangelists coming to my house weekly for months, have visited baptists groups (one of them introduced me to this song), and have been to catholic and protestant churches and have sung in church choirs... So the religious have been around me for decades. My current conclusion is that religions are man made and the claims are most stories are made up. Its an individual choice though, if one adheres to a specific religious ideology for whatever reason. To me Allah, Thor and Zeus are equally improbable as relevant dieties for my life.

The only problem with your theory is the still strong history of the Jewish people, and the scientific/archeological evidence of their history as recorded in the Old Testament and that of Jesus' coming and His church in the New Testament. You're getting another prayer sent your way from California. :-) Following Jesus has nothing to do with man-made religion, church affiliation, attendance or money. Jesus comes to set the captives free. The Truth sets us free as we are forgiven and saved from our own sins against God, others and self. I would think you'd have a lot in common reading the parts of the Bible that Paul wrote in the New Testament, like Romans. That's where I started and was won over by Jesus into a wonderful adventure 40+ years ago.

Remember, the Apostle Paul asked to be crucified upsidedown. Although, I think we are not seeing the entire cross in this. It was a means of punishment to death only. We know the truth, it's not the shape of the cross, which is most important, it's what Jesus Christ took into his heart, rapist, killers, adulterers, addicts, many of the darkest, shameful sins, guilt and every other sin mentionable and unmentionable. A very dark nine hours, until the very last chosen was passed through..to into the Kingdom. I await to meet the very last person he died for, because we know he/she will have withstood horrific tribulations and trials. Still, from Genesis to Revelation, a dog in a manger (find the meaning), the crowds said, crucify Him! One day I will find my poem and ask these two gentlemen to make it into a song. It was Holy inspired..now I know, for a very good reason. It starts something like this, The sun refused to flatter the earth, as it did apun (spell check?) with ya (disgust) As Fleur de lis ameritis, it's creator was filled with wrath. Oy.. I need to find it. I wrote this 30 years ago. Pray I did not toss it out with a box of papers!! I did not see this much in Mr. Talbot's personality. But, lately I have wondered much of what he's truly like. And there it is!! Love you both, thank you for brining me before my Lord Jesus..with tears of joy!

Yes, he (Michael Card) is playing "left handed" but he is using a "right handed " guitar. He is a good guitarist. He had hair back in the 70s and 80s. - you know , like James Taylor Its not that easy to find left handed guitars and was even harder back then. Back when he became popular most churches were using only pianos and organs and singing only hymns. His generation influenced the way most churches have praise bands today. He wrote some of the most popular songs played on Christian radio back then - when there were hardly any Christian radio stations. I think the famous folk / blues singer Elizabeth Cotten played like that too.

Catholics believe Jesus is the second person of the Holy Trinity we worship God Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. When Gabriel came to the Virgin Mary and greeted her 'Hail Full of Grace the Lord is with you and the Holy Spirit shall overshadow you and you shall bare a Son and you shall call his Name Jesus and he shall save his people' '. For give my paraphrase I am quoting from memory. We honor Mary only we love her because she said yes to God the Father and Jesus was incarnated thru her. I think God is more interested in the condition of your heart and life than the theology of the denomination you belong to. You point at the Catholic Church, but what of the protestants in N. America?? Does one need to mention all the money-seeking pastors of mega-churches in the USA?? Or the moral corruption of the televangelists? Of course the Catholic Church isn't healthy either - it's sick to the core, but I know born-again believers in both the Catholic Church and protestant churches, and I know a lot of "Sunday-Christians" in both as well. If you are student of History (as am I) you should know that the Catholic Church was basically forced into a position of power following the collapse of the Roman Empire and into the Dark Ages when they became the sole stabilizing force of Western Civilization, and the bulwark against the Rise of Islam. The Church should never ever have gained such political power, and never forced celibacy on its priests. Those two items alone probably led to 80% of their problems
@civilization574 жыл бұрын
@@Elurin I agree. Theology is important (eg: Mormanism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology, Judaism, etc) but so is moral character. As a man who has been in ministry for 40 years, I am extremely intolerant of pulpit corruption! Which is ubiquitous, as you point out. But corruption in Catholicism is endemic, from dictator popes, to selling candles as access to saints. With my 12 units of church history, I can't think of a single period of history where the Catholic church wasn't either corrupt or dead.
@Elurin4 жыл бұрын
@@civilization57 Well, I don't have 40 years in the ministry like you, but in 40 years, I've been an active member in the Catholic Church, baptist, penecostal, non-denominational, Evangelical Free, and Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches and I've known true Christians and fakes in all of them. As far as history goes, I completed a Minor in History from Trinity Western University in Langley, BC and it seems to me that History is mostly recorded when something goes terrible wrong, so perhaps there are some years where there wasn't a catastrophe in the Catholic Church? But yeah, the Protestant split in 1517 WAS necessary, for sure. But, believe it or not, there are a whole lot of Good Catholics out there, though I don't count myself among them anymore; I'm just Christian.
@civilization574 жыл бұрын
@@Elurin Thanks for replying. Yes, corruption is everywhere but in Catholicism, like Mormanism, JW, or Islam, corruption goes to the core. To the very foundation. I'm sure there are great Muslims but that doesn't mean that Islam is ever great. For centuries, Catholicism banned their slaves from reading the Bible and even held mass in Latin so their poor slaves knew nothing. They kept people dependent on their priests and blocked them from knowing God. As Jesus said, "you yourselves didn't enter in and those who were entering in, you prevented." This was true of the Pharisees and of the Catholic clergy/papacy as well. And this is their default position, not their worst position. Such as torturing Protestants and slaughtering Huguenots.

Some here have opinions based in sentimentalism, yes is good to see two persons from different background together in harmony at a personal level, here are two INDIVIDUALS, that no mean that they represent a joining of Catholic and Evangelical faith in one. Is true "some" issues sound the same, but IF Yeshua/jesus is LORD as the bible teach, the role of the pope, pray to images, pray to Mary, purgatory, imposed "celibate" and other anti biblical practices of the Catholic, must b confronted with the Bible, no personal feelings. As fact, Catholicism is a syncretism of Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek-Roman beliefs, and some Biblical ideas. Believe "in Jesus" is no a mere mental agreement", Believing in Him mean to follow His teachings from A to Z, no to pick and choose. A Catholic with a Truly experience "with Jesus" will leave the house of Rome. Nobody can serve "two masters".

+lenny zaroff :: Amen Lenny. There are many good Catholic lay people, but their doctrine is so very different than the true message of Christ. Martin Luther and all the reformers who gave their life to correct the Catholic doctrine would be so very disappointed with how Evangelicals so quickly overlook the absolute heresy of the Catholic church just so that they can claim a "oneness" with their Catholic "brothers". Unity is great, but let's make sure that Catholics leave the heresy their church teaches in order to embrace it - not the other way around.

So sorry that you have outcast me like the Jehovah's Witnesses did. Praying that you reconsider because you do know that they don't believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate.

Catholics should receive the gospel according to the Protestants way. They are yet in their sins and must be born again to enter the kingdom of Heaven..

What do mean by that? I am a catholic and I like JMT.

Jazmin. . I admire your courage but only in a wrong way. Why dont yout try reading a nice book about Catholic literature or search "the Protestant's Dilemma" book and don't trust some videos on KZbin about negative things on Catholic no one really verifies those. The Catholic doctrines came from the apostolic fathers that were taught by disciple (apostle John). You read carefully on what Martin Luther did. . He even banned books like James, revelation etc... He added "alone" in "faith" -- "Faith Alone" in the book of Romans. Check Scott Hahn in KZbin. . Or Steve Ray.. and pray.. Ask and you shall receive

Remegio Sagarino Remegio, if you loved mother Mary, like all good Catholics do, then you would obey the ONLY commandment that she gave you. "His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it." (John 2:5) (per the AKJV) so why are not heeding Mary's advice or the voice of the Shepherd? For He says, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" (John 10:27) A true "sheep" only follows Jesus the "good shepherd". Catholics follow the pope and mary and man made saints. There's no way a true Christian could follow them, as it is written, " And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers." (John 10:5) You see how we don't have the same beliefs in common? God have mercy on you.. "Repent ye and believe the gospel". (Mark 1:15)

Jazmin Camarena i have suggested to you to see videos of Steve Ray and Scott Hahn, they really enlightened for some truths on Catholic Church and its doctrines. I had some questions like what you have and these guys help me to stand firm on my belief. I listen to the songs of John Micheal Talbot because he can really put a hymn to the mystery, teaching and love of Jesus Chris. It seems to me you didn't watch Scott Hahn and Steve Ray yet. I agree with you that Protestantism is different and it should be. Martin Luther wants to take out the book of Revelations, Hebrews and especially Book of James, and I really enjoy those. How can we understand the full gospel of God if we are taking only piece by piece just to conform to your personal understanding of the bible? The apostolic fathers, like St Clement, Ireneus etc receives, preserves and teaches all the interpretations, sacraments and the authority coming from the Apostles of Jesus Christ. "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you." John 16:12-15 The scriptures need interpreters (oral and writing) and the Catholic Church has this since the start of the early churches (during St. Paul's letters). " So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter 2Thess 2:15. I am still practicing bible texts and am not a fan of proof texting but ill make an attempt to answer some of those questions. Regarding our Mother Mary, which you also said Jesus' mother, Matthew 5:17 Jesus said, " Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them" and if the law says "Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and mother..." I believe Jesus honors her mother. Jesus said be imitators of me, so we imitate Jesus Christ. We honor our Mother and we listen to her. The argument becomes circular, but for me the whole bible will not contradict itself. By imitating Christ obviously you become hearers of Him and like what you said the sheep will listen to His voice we are the sheep that listens. The saints and martyrs are reminder that it is possible to follow Christ and if they are your standard measure you will find that there is still a big gap you have to fill. I think you are also checking out what your pastors lifestyle is right? and try to follow his steps? Besides we find the teaching of our saints very useful like St Jerome 'Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ" or St Augustine's book of Confessions.. If you don't believe in the Pope and bishops then I guess you don't believe the compilation of the bible either.. The Council of Carthage, 397 check this out, use wikipedia, I think they are neutral.. Can i say these? God have mercy on you.. "Repent ye and believe the gospel". (Mark 1:15)

+Jazmin Camarena Don't worry Jazmin, you can never love and honor Mary more than Jesus did.

I'm sure you mean well but the gods of this world are dead and going to burn. Forsake these man made gods and turn to Yahweh's Torah and His Saviour Yahshua.
