Milius is right: he should have gone on to make many more films. He's a great director and writer.
@BlueAgaveStudios Жыл бұрын
Not sure why he didn't, because Independent films would have been his thing. Now, for anybody saying he got blacklisted for Indy films? Yeah, that was just something you heard in an american cinema (small a small c) class. Hell you would think independent would be the first direction this guy would have wanted to go. If he wants to extend that to say he couldn't get funding? Then you're going to have to ask me to disbelieve everything I know about funding of independent movies, even studios threw in if they thought it had a chance. But possibly Milius and his brilliance as a writer coming to terms with his frustration as a director would have made a good movie in it's own right 👍

I think he had at least 5 more great films in him. Possibly even 2 more better Conan the Barbarian movies

his interpretation of reh's work was crap... he turned conan, a movie that should have been akin to the lord of the rings trilogy, into a sappy comic book character/movie... I'd love to see peter jackson do a conan film...
@MrSuicidal6911 ай бұрын
Sappy? I don't know what movie you watched. Read REH's stories growing up and loved the SSOC Marvel comics, Milius did a great job. Blame Dino De Laurentiis for the watered down sequel. De Laurentiis wanted more of a fantasy film and the gore toned down in order to sell more tickets at the box office. The reboot with Momoa only made Milius's film look even better. @@alanh7247

@@alanh7247 What stories are you reading? It's not a sappy comic book movie. It didn't follow the exact lore that unfolds from story to story but it perfectly captured the spirit of the world and the man who stood behind Robert E Howard with an axe while he wrote. The Chronicles of Conan were an entirely different beast from the Lord of the Rings.

He would have identified with McCarthy, that's one thing we have to keep in mind here. No? Red scare? He would have sat right there on Joe's lap. I shortly realized history is not appreciated by Americans unless it was a Duke send-up of the right-wing, and as his idea of being the most decorated airman fell through, Milius did not go to war. Probably for a good reason, it's an existential survival tool like the guns they use to tear each other's lives into pieces 🔫 I mean if you can't do that from the air and rape women what is a good "red" blooded American to do? Can I get an amen? "Vietnam, America's last really great War. I will go up to the Capitol with you!" Donald J. Milius

Moviemaking is still all about people sending up fake versions of themselves and others. So I thought the 70s was the beginning of the artists time? "If you can't make it in the studio make it out there like other great directors." Unless maybe you are a frustrated writer that thinks he is a director.🐱 Actually it can be if the artist makes material that people want to see. Red Dawn is this guy's mo, the people could not resolve it with the crazy right wing extremists just like we have today. But as soon as he couldn't get his first choice in aircraft, he let somebody else fight for him in Vietnam. We took me about 5 minutes to define that character flaw, but it's a great illustration of how your heroes can take you down to where the sidewalk ends...
