I had one of your reels, years ago, I bought it at Wayne Hanson's little store on front street.

Hi John was just wondering about your general thoughts on using run dry abec 9s on a pin? Personally I do prefer a "true pin". However after watching a previous comparison video of yours in which unfortunately posts were disabled I just had the thought after your comments about condensation and bearing rumble etc. Love the reels that you make finding one in the UK has proven somewhat difficult for me. I guess I must be" losin me marbles" as age creeps in. All the best and keep 'em coming.

I have no experience with those bearings .From your comments I am guessing that you are looking for a very free running reel and you don't mind a bit of noise. In which case I would say drop the ABEC number down low or pick up a bearing with extra radial clearance (NMB make one or I can send you a set) The ABEC number does not refer to the quality of the bearing only the tolerances to which they are made The higher the number the tighter the bearing and the more sluggish and quietly they run. Also the higher number the faster they will go before destroying themselves ,like 30,000 revs per minute. None of that stuff is useful to you. I use those high ABEC number bearings because they do a great job for 99.9% of fishing situations and also it"s what men ask for .I like to keep them happy. Best regards. John

Its amazing the product he makes considering how messy his shop is. His lathe is an utter disaster. I've never seen so much swarf just sitting there waiting to deglove your fleshy hand
