@lornamc5928 I'd say, wear comfortable shoes. Don't need trail shoes for this one. If it's your first one then slow down and enjoy it. Save energy for latter stages of the race. Run your own race, don't try to keep up with the fast ones. Only person you're racing is yourself. Don't be scared to run/walk early in the race - people start fast and burn out early. Stay on top your nutrition and electrolyte intake and look after your feet. If you feel a hot spot developing, stop and put a plaster on it before it becomes a problem (have a small roll of zinc oxide tape or kt tape type in your pack just in case). Divide the course into smaller, manageable chunks. Don't think about the full distance ahead of you. Just focus on the next checkpoint. Trust your training, if you prepared well, you'll be fine. It will be painful and you'll be exhausted but you'll manage. Just keep going. Good luck and enjoy!

I was very excited about the full fat Coke at the last checkpoint. Wind was in our face the whole way.

Likewise. I'm sure they also had tablet or something similar, which was a morale boost too! Going through North Berwick was the worst, wind wise. It's was a lot better after the NB Law!
