This show is gold. It’s so amazing to hear writers/performers of this profound caliber just conversing in a way where we “mere mortals” can see the insecurities, challenges, and fears they deal with when honing their craft. It doesn’t minimize their gifts, it enhances them knowing how hard they work against these difficulties and the tenacity they must have to keep going. The art form of comedy is one of the hardest of all because like all artists, the greatest comedians are exposing profound vulnerability and have to steel themselves against the criticism that inevitably comes from all over. Being great isn’t a magic trick - is all about overcoming and never giving up. Love this show.

Mulaney struggling to explain that he was depressed/thought about death 💔 Mental health issues, which often leads to substance abuse, is nothing to be ashamed of. Thanks Dana for digging into the issues and getting serious about it for a few minutes!

Another home run interview ! I love that they are so long .. honest most podcasts over about 45 min normally get boring or loose my interest but not David and Dana ! It’s great that the discourse brings up so much I did not know not just about the guests but about you both as well ! It does not hurt that SNL was always a big part of my life . Thanks again for this podcast it’s really great 💜

Like duh. I guess they're hiding that's this is done via Zoom perhaps. If you listen closely you can hear the difference between Mulaney's audio has a lil reverb/echo and is distinct from Dana's & Davey's full, studio crispy sound. That's my guess anyway, IDK for sure. Love you guys and appreciate all the love thru laughter that you give to this world. XOXO • TakeXare 💋🙏

John Mulaney has grown so much through the past couple years that he is actually transformed. He looks like a grown up, he acts more connected, and I like him so much more now. We are blessed that he has chosen sobriety because he is funnier, more creative, and more interesting. His smartness is showing through and we are getting to see his maturity. And he is with someone who is incenting him to be his best intellectual self rather than someone with whom he directs himself to the naughty chair. I’m the future, always choose people who make you want to bring your A game and not someone that you need to hide and go be naughty..

I love listening to this podcast. I'm a writer who focuses most on my poetry, but I'm trying to write more and more little freelance things for websites and marketing firms and maybe even do some corporate communications and stuff. Sounds completely unrelated, but hearing all of these people talk about their work is really inspiring, and keeps my fire burning. Another similar is the Kevin Pollak Chat Show.

Whether behind the scenes at SNL or on stage alone as a stand up, Mulaney is as talented and hard working as they come. I understood what he meant about not knowing whether he was going to be able to return to the stage. Relapses feel like al of a sudden someone has thrown you back in jail and threw away the key...that is what falling back into addiction is like. he was lucky to get out of it and get help again, it's definitely a progressive disease and get worse and more deadly with age. Also surprised, not surprised ...There are a lot of comments here that are pretty whack and inappropriate. These people are obviously starving for a reaction, best just to ignore. One thing that was said in comments that i do agree with is the video part. You guys and ur guests are comics that are physically funny, we wanna see that. Live or taped in studio would be the best, but i'll certainly take zoom screens over no visual....ya'll would immediately triple ur following overnight.....thanks Good stuff peace.

This entire episode is fascinating on dozens of levels. I'm a huge fan of all 3 of them. However, I'm intrigued by the silent agreement that John Mulaney now only gets continuous softball questions in every interview. I assume a bunch of things are "off limits" (which is kind of farcical because it's obviousness makes it worse) but, is it because he is now seen as fragile as a Faberge egg? Is a comedian suddenly untouchable because he had a baby? I'm truly curious. Mulaney didn't have to deal with "social media backlash" because he went to rehab, it's because it came off that he dumped his wife that he spent almost a decade praising. He must know on some level that is the real "issue" some of his previous fans had. Either way, great episode, guys! David Spade - you're the BEST!
@reen4450
@reen4450 2 жыл бұрын
I dont think he's untouchable but he clearly doesnt want to talk about his marriage ending (for now) and has people that will interview him and not press that issue. Honestly its kind of uncommon for people in the industry to not address the elephant in the room/ what fans want them to address that it is a bit jarring lol I think people were expecting the usual headline of him finally breaking his silence a long time ago but he managed to go over a year without really addressing it. At the end of the day no matter how much he talked about his wife before we're not actually owed an explanation. Fans he lost over it r lost ,fan he kept he kept. It is what is at this point.

@slayerduval1 ... Yeah. Also bizarre how they complain about people passing judgement on their parenting choices on instagram. Celebrities posting photos of their children on the public social media accounts they use to promote themselves, sell tickets, sell product is quite disturbing already. Then complaining on people commenting below the pix is quite puzzling.

He didn’t dump his wife or cheat on her . He moved relatively fast , yes , but that his Business . They were separated and in the process of finalizing their divorce long before he went rehab. It’s why she was not in his intervention. And to say this “ his wife that he spent almost a decade praising” as if it’s a bad thing is weird! Ofc he was saying nice things about her, they were married and loved each other. Relationships end, it’s doesn’t mean ppl past feelings were not true ! Both him and his ex had their own issues and probably it’s heather for both of them to be apart . He struggled with addiction and mental health issues and she spoke about having an eating disorder and self harm . It easy to judge others but life isn’t black and white it’s complicated and that doesn’t make ppl bad .

😅 at 50:00. Now I'm doing Dave. Impromptu after a break "So John ..is it John??" I remember meeting John in Tampa Florida he was 11. My dad vinnycatalano 🎵. Dad was appointed talent seeker. Ha! Rip Dad my Dad. Really riding my coattails. Don't worry I'm the inside legend. I'd write the book or three books ... Write since I'm 4or seven for sure. Record labels love free content dad took first sales. NYC. Greatest bands I sang wrote where dad noted my productions and onto the 70's. 80's 90's. I made up creators giving other somewhat know writers cred. I couldn't stand Dad ...Sleeping around as my parents did was nuts. A book yes. Changing names. It's depressing.
