As we were sitting this, we kept shaking our heads saying, “we’ve gotten so much better since then!” But those cliffs and stacks are dramatic - it would be hard not to take good footage!

Absolutely loved your journey to John O'Groats and Dunnet Head! The scenery looked incredible, especially the rugged cliffs and coastline. Those midges sound like a challenge though! Can't wait to see your next stop!

We loved having the drone and getting to see what we were standing on. We’re still learning to get great footage from it, but we’re making progress. Midges. Those pesky midges! We encountered them in Lake Mivatn in Iceland too.

There is a sign in Clio, Alabama that Pea River Presbyterian Church was settled by Scotts from Isle of Skye in 1823. They came from Mt. Carmel in NC, USA that was started in 1776.

Oh! Stay with us…we have some incredible footage from the Isle of Skye. We spent quite a bit of time there and really fell in love with that very special place.

There is a book called Pea River Presbyterian Church History with over 1000 people named as buried around the church. The descendants and relatives of isle of Skye! There are twice as many people in the county, many from all over the world. The church has fewer than 100 people who are members now. It was never larger than it is now. Sisters who sold encyclopedias set up a trust that is separate from the church. The church cannot spend any money in the trust for the cemetery maintenance of nearly 3,000 people!

Wow it just looks incredible 🤩 But I wouldn't have guessed midges would be such a problem with so much coastline there! We had Sand Flies in the Northwest territories, same idea as what you described here...

Iceland has the same issues. We carry tube nets wherever we go. Do the midges/sand flies bother the horses as much as they annoy the humans?

@@welltravelledlife yes absolutely it's a Hazzard to have horses constantly shaking and trying scratch themselves against bushes and trees if you are on the trail. Really high quality bug spray does help. On really bad days I will even spray them down just to be in the pasture, otherwise they run non stop and don't spend enough time eating and lose weight.

Funny how midges are never mention in any Scotland tourism brochures - I don't know why not, are they really are a unique experience of the Scottish highlands. 🤣

We had midges in Iceland that could compete with Scottish midges. But there’s probably a reason Highlanders have stags as their emblem and not midges!😜😂

We hadn’t even thought about that. But that’s such an interesting twist on just how remote Scotland is - from Australia!
