John Oliver, being booed at a Sesame Street event, is so on brand because he could not stay silent in front of some corporate nonsense, and I love that for him

I just want to know what person at the Sesame Street company looked at the bank that they were honouring with a fake award and went "You know who should be within 100 miles of this building when we do this? John Oliver" because either that person is blissfully innocent and must be protected at all costs or is an agent of chaos and needs to be feared and respected because they can create problems wherever they go!

This is why I love John Oliver. He _knew_ it was going to be bad, but he still called BoA for their bullshit marketing. A little bit of charity doesn't undo all of the ghoulishness they've wallowed in, and they SHOULD be called on it at every opportunity.

Critical thinking involves the process of listening to someone else, understanding what they say or do and then providing critical thought as to why that person behaves as they do...whether you agree with them or not. You cannot wave the notion of critical thinking around whilst being so close minded and not employing it yourself.

@@randyschwaggins I'm curious to know what you think "critical thought" is actually for. I would argue, that if it isn't used to inform ones actions (i.e. vocalizing your formed critique) it is not useful at all. Seems to me like you are advocating for docility and refrain from actual critique whilst critiquing op yourself and accusing them of being close-minded without any evidence to support that claim. Have I missed something here?

Corrections can't ever have an actual guest.... except John Oliver. John's literally the only human who by his intrinsic nature and constitution belongs in such a segment whose premise is to correct wrongs

Shame on Sesame street for not standing up and cheering the truth. They need to apologize to John and do a whole show about not ignoring the truth for the almighty dollar.

I suspect Sesame Street characters weren't doing the booing. The audience in these places is usually all rich people.

I suspect that there were a lot of bank staff and friends of the person receiving the fake award in the audience.

I don't blame Sesame Street for dancing for money. I blame a society where Sesame Street HAS to beg for money.
