perfect poetic justice. for context the constituency in which the temple was built is ayodhya, and during the building of this temple many people's houses were destroyed and people were displaced to make "ram path" which means a path which is unnecessary for the temple and very long. the people who's houses got destroyed that came in the "path" were not even reprimanded properly for this. this is one of the biggest reasons for their loss in this constituency. also Uttar pradesh, hindu heartland, gave majority seats to another party(of india alliance)

I really hope John does a follow-up segment on the Indian election because as expected all of the "Godi" media predictions were just wishcasting for "dear leader". Modi's party suffered a major blow to his authoritarian goals of gaining an outright majority of 400 seats in hopes of rewriting the constitution and in an election that was supremely controlled by the BJP not just in terms of money but also media, IT cell and election commission. The extreme amount of unemployment and economic pain of the Indian population especially in the BJP strongholds like UP, is what swung the election as well as a rejection of the demagoguery and arrogance of the RSS in trying to win an election with just anti-Muslim sentiment and Hindu supremacist talking points. The coalition parties were able to amalgamate their unique voter constituencies along with disaffected voters, youth voters, and marginalized groups to win their elections. (the IT cell has been sent the memo to dub it as caste politics, which is something RSS excels in, except they operate on Caste supremacy). In a positive turn for democracy, this election reignites India's divided political state into a more representative mode and away from one-party rule.

I worry that a big part of the reason Modi did all those social programs and make sure he was so closely associated with them, like putting his face on them, was to get people to like him, trust him, and rely on him, so it seems like voting for anyone else could potentially destabilise everything they've built.
