“That Will Be Good Enough for Me,” is a track from John P. Kee’s Tribute to a Legend: Rance Allen, Chapter 1, the first installment in a series of digital EP’s celebrating the life and legacy of the groundbreaking gospel pioneer, Rance Allen, who passed away in the fall of 2020. The Rev. James Cleveland wrote and first recorded the song in 1964 for a similarly titled Savoy Records LP. Allen dusted it off and made it his own on his 1972 Stax Records/Gospel Truth album, Truth is Where It’s At. And now, Kelontae Gavin, picks up where he left off. He rears back and lets his dynamic voice lean into this lushly orchestrated ballad that starts off with the familiar lyrics, “I’ve never been to Paris in the spring or in the fall. I’ve never been to India to see the Taj Mahal.” Gavin’s voice effortlessly fluctuates between melodiously enunciated phrases to ferocious squalls as Kee provides standout backing vocals. It’s a show stopping performance that Gavin finishes with a perfect recreation of one of Allen’s intricate, trademark vocal runs. That’s good enough for us.

It was hard to listen to because it wasn't gospel or a prayer or praise or worship. It seemed to be a vocal run exercise. Good vocals but talking about going to heaven seems to mean you are ready to die and leave your purpose here on earth (to bring heaven to earth). Just one person's comment.

Hey, read your comment. Just a thought. He made have been trying to perform an excellent rendition/tribute to the Rance Allen whom I’m sure would be Godly proud for wanting to perform a tribute in his honor. I believe Kelontae Gavin did a fine job but the song was a bit outside of his normal repertoire. I believe Tyler Allen would have done it a bit more justice and not saying Kelontae couldn’t but when you hear both of the young men sing Tyler’s voice sounds closer to Rance Allen than Kelontae and Kelontae has the range but (for me) lacks the vocal heaviness Rance and Tyler share. And it could go vice versa for Tyler & Kelontae
