My friend was DJing at our school disco in 1986 so I asked him to play this. When it started playing the dance floor cleared. I can't tell you how crushed I felt. However, I am over the moon to discover that lots and lots of people still remember it with affection - so much so that John Parr played acoustic version at a packed Royal Albert Hall. 👏👏👏

The 80s studio version was a power ballad, this live acoustic feels strangely melancholic - I guess to be expected after decades past and it's associated loss and experience.

What an incredible talent. A true musician. He should have been a lot bigger than he was. What a voice. He can sing better than many his contemporaries. If you notice that he sounds just like his records, that's becuase he's the real deal. He didn't need studio tricks or gimmicks.

John was better guitar player than i thought seeing this version. I was never aware of that. Hes a major top 5 influence in my rasp vocal which made me money. I had no idea on his ability on guitar though. Hes legit and gets his music more than i gave credit. Vocally ive always been a massive fan though when he edges that rasp on back tones. Clearly my later part of my career i mastered the rasp i had his music being a helping hand to see that i could utilize it and mantain that sexy melodic form i love. Of course he wasnt top influence but transitioning from high and soft to hard and back to rasp yes big influence. Without the cracks 😆 🤣 😂 😹 but point is thank you to him.

Hey John, keeps popping up on another version of St Elmo´s Fire and it can´t be more exciting. In every preformence uniqueis revealed. New Horrizon wasn´t my taste, the orginal version from ´85 can´t be beat and what can come out of an acoustic guitar out everything with the unmistakable voice is brilliant
