So when I was working at the faculty club he radio played a song with mad lyrics. No way to find its name or artist. Had to be 1975. When the web came on line I tried to find it from time to time, remembering only something about a dirty car in a parking lot; and a mention of one-eyed Joe. No luck. Three years ago I stumbled upon a sophisticated lyrics search engine. This time it worked! When it printed John Prine, I thought of course. That same week news came out that Prine was very sick. He died the week after that. I told my friend at CKUA as soon as I found the song’s name and he played it for everyone. Rest in glory, John Prine, in one of your favorite places! “When I get to heaven I'm gonna shake God's hand Thank Him for more blessings than one man can stand Then I'm gonna get a guitar And start a rock-n-roll band Check into a swell hotel Ain't the afterlife grand?”

Me either! Been listening for over 40 years & been to a few concerts but never have heard that last verse. That’s why I’m listening to various live performances- to hear that verse. Yet this is sharp - like really rocking & just builds & builds. Really nice. :-)

Modern country is trash. It all sounds tinny and lifeless. 70s country is peak. That's the only Era of country worth listening . I was at a dive bar with a juke box last night and someone lined up 5 0r six modern country songs and half of them are mixed with rap beats frok 2003 like wtf lol

John Prine is on a tear in this 1978 video live from Austin City Limits. This performance is an example of three years of touring a song. The crew is dialed in! I am assuming this is the same lineup as the outfit that played on the famed September 78 live recording: Guitar - Johnny Burns Bass - Tommy “Pickles” Piekarski Drums - Angelo Varias Organ, Piano - Howard Levy i think the other guitarist is Arlen Roth

I believe it's a show from Austin City Limits . It possibly was his first appearance on ACL. Do be mad if I'm wrong I'm not 100% positive but pretty comfortable saying it. If its show I'm thinking of it has a pretty killer version of bruised oranges also. For some reason vids of this show dont seem to last long before they vanish? You save it and all that is there thumbnail that says deleted
@tombuckley74673 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you're right. He mentions Castle Creek, which was a legendary Austin venue. (This show pre-dated the Austin backdrop that would be used for years - and convinced many a viewer the program was outdoors.)
@sprthrwwychnnl733 жыл бұрын
@@tombuckley7467 this is from Austin City Limits 1978, it was Prine’s first appearance on ACL. I would pay good money for an official DVD or CD release and I’m sure many others would too, but unfortunately none has been forthcoming.
