I watch this vid over and over, thanks Matt for making it in the first place. I'll have a Cross Bones one day soon hopefully. I know you said the advent of compulsory ABS in some markets made H-D phase the Cross Bones out but I don't understand why? Surely disc brakes are disc brakes, I don't understand why the addition of ABS to the set up would make any difference? Perhaps one of your techs would know? (If you ever get to see this comment, I appreciate the video is a few years old now).

I love my 2011 Cross Bones. Bought it new and I ride it constantly. I don't think HD will bring back the Springer but I wish they would. I'd buy another and have a nice pair.

I have a 2004 Heritage Springer it is a 1550 with stage 1 and I absolutely love it.I had the engine rebuilt a few years ago. The chain tensioners didn't get changed out and it ruined the motor. I can understand why HD phased it out with the ABS situation etc. I have 2020 Street Glide that I ride when we go on long rides. I ride my Springer on short rides and I love it. It is so Harley retro and you can't beat it.

I think you're exactly right Matt. The springer front end, updated to meet today's standards would sell better than in the past. I regret not buying a Crossbones back in the day. The whole dark look, old school style and the ride were spot on. I loved the springer seat.I think the rake on the bike was exactly right for good handling, not too stretched out. The bike was a good fit for me and I'm 6'2, 220lbs.

The very best engineered springer front end was made by Indian for their 1946-48 models. I’ve seen versions of this front end on the Buell Ronin line and some Confederate motos. Harley should buy the patent from Indian and put it on all their bikes, that way no more messing around with fork fluid. Only maintenance would be pumping grease into the zerk fitting.

That's awesome! The springer front end is my favorite front end for a Harley. I personally would love to see Harley davidson bring it back in the Heritage, The Slim, and the 883 Iron. I haven't seen a Cross Bones in a while. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

I have had a FX springer and loved it. Gives you the vintage look and feel. I think when they came out with the Slim S with the OD Army paint it should of had a black FL springer with the spring solo seat. To give it that authentic touch they could made the rear fender resemble a WLA fender and mount it to the swingarm like the rocker did. Also have the front fender sit higher to resemble a WLA. I think it would have been a big hit with military customers, customers looking for a vintage style, and some of the younger crowd that maybe saw it from Captain America. You could also do it with a sportster to make it more authentic to resemble engine shape. There was a guy in France that made one call "Milwaukee Belle". He made it because he restores WLA's, wanted to have a daily rider with modern brakes, power and suspension. harleydavidsonwarboy.blogspot.com/ That is what should take the place of the "48".

I think H-D should bring back the springer front end with ABS brakes. I just traded my 1998 FLSTS, in excellent condition, for a 2019 FLHCS. My FLSTS sold 3 days later. I purchased the FLSTS from Bumpas H-D, Memphis, TN in 1998.

I thought those forks looked great on that Heritage, and could totally see them on the Deluxe! I’m not too old, but I love the classic looks. I think with the changing that we all know HD must do going forward, it would be a great idea to occasionally bring back something from the past at the same time they unveil bikes of the future. It tells a story, it shows that Harley respects its roots and the elder market, but at the same time shows that they’re staying on the cutting edge. It satisfies past, present, and future! I’m thinking simply of limited time only type of situation, solely for those who love that old school look but with upgraded guts. 👍

Hi Matt, as if you stole my project I am preparing. I am actually planning to custom a 2019 slim to look like cross bones. I took the decision to keep the front end, just because of the reasons you mentioned . will change the rear fender with Bob fender, to get as close as I can to cross bones look. And on the tank will put the 30es flying eagle decals. So you imagine bro. Love and peace to you

I think a Street Bob special, with a Springer front end and a 114 would be sweet, call it an FXBSS, Factory Experimental Bobber Softail Springer or something along those lines. Maybe do a limited production run in colors bespoke to the Springers. A return of the Bad Boy perhaps? Springer front in with raked out, blacked out, 114s and custom paint and decals, in about the 17-19k range, I think you'd have a winner.

I had a 2008 Crossbones while living overseas in the UAE. I could not get it into the US without making a bunch of expensive Mods to it, and end up shipping back to the UAE and sold it there. Since then, I've been wanting the Crossbones back for a long time. Let's start a petition to H-D to bring the crossbones back, Who's with me?

If they brought the same de-raked springer from the Bones back, I'd buy it. Hell make it an option like the 117 across the softail line. The last Harley I bought was an 09 X-bones, I still own it and ride it. It's tired, but I doubt I'd buy anything that didn't have a springer on it.

Definately springer to Slim! And with the same rake as Slim has with hydralic forks. Modern bikes has steering tube too high to old steep rake to look very good.

Bring it back , I have a Evo Springer and just purchased a T.C. Springer , I am gonna buy a Crossbones when I finish this 2001 FXSTS and sell it. I put a 20k engine in it with upgraded cam chest and SE ignition carb Bassani exhaust and a few other above par parts and accessories .This bike should be killer, cant keep them all. I just have to many bikes gotta get the fleet down to my Street Glide a Crossbones and either my pan or shovel stay all else are down the road....But if Harley put out a Springer with the new engine I would stand in line like I did for concert tickets in the seventies and eighties....

They could make all those heavy steel fork rods outta carbon fiber these days. That would cut the weight right down. I don't get what's so hard about ABS. It's only a little encoder wheel and sensor. Even potted up in HD's donut, it doesn't take up that much space. Those bikes still have axles and brake rotors. Gotta be a way to clamp one on. I'm kinda surprised they killed that X bones. As I recall, that one sold pretty well.

A Springer with foot clutch and tank shifter then I would buy a Milwaukee 8....the first Harley I ever rode was a 49 panhead and something about the tank shifter I've always loved and if there was a way to have it on a modern bike I would definitely have it but not the Jockey shift a true tank shifter .

Is there any plans in the near future for the motor company to bring back a Springer front-end model? I know that the fact they couldn't do it with ABS may be an issue. Matt, beautiful bikes. Yes they should. One thing that I admire about HD is the new technology incorporated into the iconic HD bikes. That old springer is a good example. i.e. - "If you keep it running you're doing good" - Now days they don't leak everywhere, so yes they should bring back the springer. They look great.

Nothing could have made me happier than you making a Springer vid, and showing them so much love. I’m biased, but agree nothing outlooks my FXSTS and it gets lots of compliments often. Mostly because you just don’t see too many, but the looks are undeniable. His crossbones is absolutely stunning. Hell of a job man. Yes HD, bring one back. Don’t change it too much or suck it up and forget Europe if you have too. Edit: Matt, you should make a sequel to this. Explaining the stuff on the floor at the time and recent prior years. Back then it was Chrome and skinny front tires. This bike was so far ahead of its time in style, and the stories you can tell about that time would make an interesting video on it’s own.
