I did 126, played in my highest national league, facing opponents like Albin Ouschan and Mario He here in Austria, finnishing 2. place team 2018, stats I where 4., and I´m playing since 1993 and hundrets of tournaments, meaning I´m deep into this game and spend tenthousands of hours with it... I understand so much what this means to him, alltough it´s also like cutting the chair of the King, breaking Mosconi´s record was also something like finding the wholy grail and considering drinking out of it. But it was time... I like John so much for his humor and his honesty. I watched so many runs on youtube here, some of them himself commentating. I learned a lot from him even tough we never met. A one of a kind and inspiring player!! He deserved it, I was always hoping if this record will ever be broken then by him and it happened, I share his satisfaction, he created a mystical moment in pool that will last. Me running the first time over a 100 balls felt like the 526 must feel to him, and I also felt it in advance that night, finishing a game to 150 with a 86 and starting the next with 62, I knew it´s gonna happen, an unbelievable feeling, indescribably! John, welcome to the hall of fame, you would have been remembered as a great one anyway, but now your name will be connected with straightpool into eternity!!! Much love Bro 💖💖💖

Wow, you ran a 126. That is really super strong. When I think about just how strong that is, it makes me think that 626 just is not in the realm of being possible, on a pool table, of any size. Until there is a video, many of those who have not seen it will wonder if he really accomplished that unbelievable run.

In abundant humility, Mr Schmidt doesn’t mention that Mosconi’s high run was made on an 8-foot exhibition table with oversized pockets. Schmidt’s record is actually an order of magnitude more impressive, having been executed on a regulation 9-foot table. Some argue an 8-ft table presents greater logistic difficulty, making it actually harder to run balls than on a table 125% bigger. These same folks will also offer proof as to how the earth is flat, so it is best to not mention that Schmidt’s table also had pockets about a 1/4 inch smaller than those of the table Mosconi used.
@frederiquerijsdijk
@frederiquerijsdijk 4 жыл бұрын
The table John played on was not a regulation table. Pockets were 5" I believe. The 4 corners at least. Still a major accomplishment
@stephenheiden86
@stephenheiden86 4 жыл бұрын
@@frederiquerijsdijk The BCA letter of authentication cites Mr Schmidt’s record run was performed “...on a 4.5' x 9' Rebco Pocket Billiard Table on Simonis 760 cloth with 5" corner pocket openings and 5.5" side pocket openings." That table size and those pocket openings are regulation table standards. Accounts of Mr Mosconi’s record never dispute the table size as 4' x 8' and virtually all note that the exhibition table had “oversized” pockets.
@michaeltrumph121
@michaeltrumph121 4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes an 8th feet is indeed harder due to logistics problems. In games like 9 ball and 10 ball an 8th feet table is a lot easier, but in straight pool all the balls are congested in one place.
@stephenheiden86
@stephenheiden86 4 жыл бұрын
@@michaeltrumph121 This is definitely true on 7-footers or smaller tables but the proportionate difference of only about 2-1/2 ball diameters on the width of an 8-footer is a negligible logistic to overcome for a skilled player. Also, since Mosconi was never averse to long up-table shots, he was likely comfortable with such strategies on the 8-footer with pattern play that less resembled 9-ft half-table 14.1 patterns; in other words, using more of the table to alleviate any unusual congestion that might've occurred. Oversized pockets also added a dimension of certainty against misses.
@TimZ007

All true. but did John had a tight rack every time? very fast cloth. high performance cue, shaft, tip? Did they clean and polish balls every rack? Clean table every rack. Still incredibly impressive no doubt. I notice when I play strait pool I will skid a ball at some point, plus 4" pockets and cleaning the table once every few months dose not help. LOL. My high run is like 35 lol so I cant talk. Lets just say I have clusters for days on my table.

For those asking when we're going to see the video, just remember how long it took CJ Wiley to get the video out of "The Million Dollar Challenge" where Earl Strickland ran 11 racks of 9 Ball to win the Million. Yes I know CJ had Legal issues to deal with so it took longer but it takes a while to get something like this edited and ready for the public. They also might have legal issues as well to overcome. Also is there enough demand? they have to take that into consideration as well.

I know someone who did a run well over that in straight pool in Edmunston, NB years ago. He nearly got to 700 balls in a row. It was a small tournament. I can't remember his name, but I remember the owner of the establishment. I only like Regulation sized tables myself. I hate bar pool tables. I played Snooker too. When I was in St. John, NB, I earned a name for myself. You'd win tokens for beer and food. Heck, I hardly ever paid money for my nights out. I had plenty of tokens all the time from various bars where they held tournaments. I also worked at Bristol Billiards long ago on West Street in Bristol, CT down the street from ESPN HQ. Went up against a lot of good players there. I've never been to Vegas though I've won a few games against those who have been to Vegas. Too old and sick now to do anything like that. Oh...The Glory Days of playing Pool....I've emptied about 11 tables in a row off the break playing 8 Ball and all call shots. No luck involved with calling every shot whether it kisses off another ball or cushion. Billiards was my past time playing all day long 4 days per week. The more you practice, the more you empty tables. It won me a huge stuffed animals at a fair. Curved pockets, and you had to get all balls on the table in off the break and following shots. Every side pocket and corner pocket just fit a ball with rounded cushions. Perfect shots only basically. I was on my motorcycle with a big stuffed toy animal in front of me where I had to put my head to the side just to drive down the street. Good thing no police officers saw me while driving to the boarding house while in college. Ha! That would have been funny!
@brianparent
@brianparent 3 жыл бұрын
Oh...Bristol Billiards is no longer open. There is a pawn shop there now. I believe the owners of Bleachers, a bar out front, owned Bristol Billiards. 23 regulation sized tables they had. Now, people mostly go to Shooters in Southington, CT. Wish I could practice every day like I did long ago. I have End Stage Liver Disease now at 51 years old. Not fun at all that is. Anyway, have fun out there and always remember that there are people just as good as you are. Some just aren't advertised and go unnoticed.

Oh...and I wish they made small round tip cues about 6mm in diameter. The rounder the tip is, the more control you have as long as the tip stays soft and doesn't harden. My favorite cue tip....small, oval, and soft. Not hard, slippery, or large..
